Strong booze has been on a tear lately, it has nearly doubled in value over the past few years. So when I walked in the supermarket today and noticed that my favorite booze was up 17,14% since last week, I was totally gutted. After fastforwarding the stages of grief, I loaded up my shopping cart with 20 bottles and thought about it more deeply.
Booze is superior to gold and bitcoin, it has performed way better over the past 3 years, it is a store of value, and in the event of currency collapse or economic meltdown, it seems like it would be more realistic to be trading a bottle of scotch for a few cartons of eggs, rather than using gold, after all, gold cannot be eaten or drunk

Is this a John Falcon account?
-
I fully expect that a bottle of jameson will sell for 50 bux within 3 years

Liquor has definitely gone up.
Scotch has to be imported and shipping costs more.
Wages have gone up so the cost is passed on to the consumer.
NY is raising min wage to almost $22/hr.

how long can you store it before the taste and quality decomposes? if the answer is "many years", then I am going to buy at least 20k worth of booze as a hedge against inflation

Everything in the supermarket is more expensive. Inflation is out of control.

Unopened bottles forever practically.
Just store it in a dark place away from sunlight and heat.

I’m going to store mine at Pamith’s house as long as my bottles are roach-proof

No doubt bottles of booze would be worth having in hard times.
You could divide up the contents for trade.
