Under the budget deal, natural gas hookups will be banned in small buildings beginning in 2025 and large buildings beginning in 2028, according to Hochul.
Overall, in 2021, about 60% of all New York households relied on natural gas for heating while another 20% used heating oil, according to the Energy Information Administration.

I can only imagine how high electric bills are going to be in upstate NY during the long winters. :-\ :-X

Would not step foot in NY now or ever. Filthy shithole even the residents are now admitting that fact!

Gas isn’t exactly cheap, either.
-
Everything is wonderful.

I have natural gas and it’s not that expensive. I also have a whole house generator that’s natural gas powered for power outages due to storms and what not. It’s great to have. Not sure why anybody would want to ban the hookup of new natural gas ???
-
ban humans, burry them all alive in concrete so they cant rot and create more co2

It changes nothing in terms of GHG emissions, considering China, India, and other developing nations' production. It's virtue-signaling.

California set dates for trucks and trains. :-\

Agree 100%. Never thought a state could be politically fucked more than California but NY is…although not by much, BUT they seemingly “voted” for this and like Chicago, let the fucker burn

Americans are the largest consumers on the planet.
If your consumption goes down, so does everybody else’s.
The amount of ‘stuff’ Americans have is insane. The tv show ‘hoarders’ is American for a reason lol

This is true. I call it the costco lifestyle. Gotta have all the new shit, a giant 4000 square foot home, new trucks and suvs....just everything. I want I want I want. It's all worthless shit. I'd like to have plenty of money in the bank but own only what I could fit in a duffle bag. I think I'm in the minority though on this one.

My thoughts exactly. New York state and Illinois are like California, but with a long brutally cold winter.
Note, Illinois is the only state in the country that lost population. Most of that population loss is coming from rural areas where people are fed up with the states politics.

California has allegedly also lost population

The state’s population was 39,501,653 in 2020, fell to 39,142,991 in 2021, and to 39,029,342 in 2022.
My statement was based on memory of the previous two censuses. That's going back before the pandemic, which probably changed the situation in California.

Good luck heating in the winter. Math on BTUs is real.
-
Meteor can’t come soon enough.
I hope it kills every single liberal on here and in the real world. And I hope they die horrible, painful deaths in public. They voted for this shit or so the electronic machines "tell" us. LNM and Oak deserve Hell.

So can they use propane then? You just convert all your natural gas equipment to propane

And go broke in a couple years. Propane where I am is insanely expensive. Wood burning stoves are getting to the point where you can't get one. Best to buy some backup heat sources if you live in a climate that gets winters.

The first utility to go down in a blizzard? (Answer in the form of a question)

LOL! Can’t heat or eat! Maybe we can use cars as power sources?

You could diy something ugly easy enough. Access to wood is the main hurdle, and the labor to prepare it.

if Cali sucks so much, why are you still there?

Haha, the accent and lack of manners alone are enough....let alone the politics and the cost. Costs will drop though as people with money and sense are moving south in droves.

Im in the upper east side, just moved here, was in Brooklyn for the last 15. But I’m staying to be a bit too old for Brooklyn fun

I prefer keeping most of my earnings so NY would never be on my option list. The more you earn the more it costs you in NY.
Totally understand why you would be on board with the gas ban though so guessing it is good news for you.
-
I'm in lake placid. I heat mostly with dead wood I take off my land. Now they're threatening to make wood stoves illegal.
-

Hes trying to change the culture. Its easier to do it from the inside.

Are people moving to warmer parts of the US or is that not something on people’s radar?
