Because it's the same at it always is, the top ___% get the resources, i think it's only 5-6% of the gdp that goes towards education in the states. Meanwhile countries are spending 10-15 elsewhere, that's why. It's great for some things, american top level colleges are the best in the world, the rest of them are high school level elsewhere

It’s a good question. I think the disparity between school districts is at least partly to blame. Deriving funding from local property taxes means that wealthy areas have more money for schools than poorer areas, and I don’t think that’s conducive to educating our nation’s youth as a whole.
It’s been a while since I checked but last I saw, the US was near the top of the test score rankings up until about middle school. From that point onwards, we progressively fall in the rankings, landing in the 40s by the final year of high school. Not sure what the cause is, but it’s an interesting phenomenon to be sure.
Personally, I think we should take some of our massive military budget and invest it in our schools and our nations youth. Seems like a better use of the money to me.

Those numbers are incorrect.
They don't have the highest spending per student which is my point.
The reason they are high performing is because the parents are highly educated, very competitive, and stress academics.

Oh for sure it's the most important thing, growing up it was understood that we'd all get postgraduate degrees, not doing so wasn't an option. But i was fortunate in that i had 2 parents and my mom was also getting her doctorate so we had an example. Some people have a bad dice roll, a lot of people get their mom and she has to work 3 jobs to barely make ends meet, those kids need help

In my state we have the second worst public education system in the United States.
They just gave all the teachers 35% raises and more funds for schools.
Test scores went down.
It's not as easy as "more money". It's a parental problem.

I don't really know anything about academics but I read the claim that if you get into say Harvard you can't fail they will not allow it. So if you have rich or powerful parents donating you can essentially buy a degree. Is this true?

If you can't get near a 4.0 in US schools then you're not paying attention or you're an idiot. Read the assignment, remember what you read, you're gonna get an A. It's a cakewalk for anyone of average intellect like me.
This is bullshit to talk about it like it's some complicated affair and we have to align all these disparate elements to make the magic happen. Gimme a break. You guys remember school. There's nothing academically challenging going on.
It's basically a problem of disengagement. The kid is half assing the assignments while on tiktok and the parents can't be bothered. You want people more engaged? Make them pay for the school. Write that check every semester. Next thing you know everyone is a tiger mom.
