I had to go online to see what "Rhabdo" is:

And my training partner sent me this video, showing Larry's biceps injury:

There’s nothing new about Rhabdo but since CrossFit was started it sure brought it to the forefront of stupid training.
Like the screenshot says. It basically breaks down muscle tissue (injures it) to the point it gets absorbed into the bloodstream and a toxin. It runs through the kidneys where it’s filtered and if not caught in time, destroys the kidneys

What causes this toxic breakdown, Coach?

Just as I said. Basically tearing down the muscle so much beyond just DOM’s resulting into actual muscle trauma. Extreme high volume exercises can do this especially if you’re not accustomed to this form of high volume training. A great example of destroying a team would be about 6-7 years ago the University of Oregon brought in a new S&C coach. He thought it would be a good idea to mentally try to break the team through some crazy ass program. The results were having almost half the team in the hospital with Rhabdomyolosis (Rhabdo). One of the more dumber and dangerous things I’ve seen in my years of training athletes. This guy should never work on the S&C field again

It's a shame he's a train wreck already. Definitely had to be one of the most gifted strength athletes ever.

It really is. I don’t even think he’s 30?

I wonder how common this condition is for the regular lifter, one would have to train way beyond failure multiple times? I know crossfiters are proud of having it, stupid people.

Reading this I think I recall that at the very beginning, when I was working out for maybe 1 or 2 years, being probably severely overtrained as a young and over-motivated iron warrior ;D, I was getting my regular check-up at the doctor's office, and there was some protein found in my urine sample. The doctor (who had no clue about strength training though) told me that this was not normal because it meant that my kidneys had to clean Protein out of my system.
I never had any problems since then and didn't waste much thought about it, but maybe this was a small hint of the condition we're talking about in this thread.

Nothing to worry for me, I don’t train hard enough

Really? So nothing to do with gear at all? Just training your butt off in the gym?
Well...I suppose in a roundabout way, gear would increase our capacity to train that way. But the way you describe it, hard natural trainers can be afflicted by it.
Interesting. Thanks, Coach. That's all new information to me.

It’s not. You’ll almost never see this in a regular gym or S&C facility with people training on their own. General population hate pain and if they don’t understand it (depending on what the pain is) they won’t work through it, which in this case is a good thing. It’s usually when you get the “personal trainer” who thinks that if their client is almost fucking debilitating sore the client thinks that trainer is the best in the world.

This has little to do with gear. With gear it will actually aid in recovery. Now, on an another note, let’s say you’re older and still train hard but suffer with high cholesterol and you get some doctor that places you on a statin that doesn’t understand exercise intensity, if you’re training with any type of intensity that statin WILL cause unusual soreness (depending on the mg) with the very possibility of Rhabdo.

Larry Wheels was heading for injuries the way he kept lifting heavy.
Larry Scott advocated going up and down the rack for biceps and also deltoids. The accumulated pain was severe. Most people can't persist with such protocols so avoid that dangerous side effect.
-
Someone needs to warn bhank to back off a little with the workouts. We are all aware of how hard he works. Would hate to see this happen to him!
-
Larry is a low IQ individual. Definitely not Mensa material

Protein in the urine is common if you are training intensively and particularly intensively with heavy weights.
It's normal and usually not a big deal.

Could just be an excuse for another guy destroying their kidneys with drugs.
-
That guy never leaves the hospital. He should rethink his priorities.
-
These popular gymrat clowns are always in trouble of one sort of another. And people idolize these clowns.
-
Larry is a likeable dude. Unfortunately he’s also not terribly bright.
As I’ve said for years, he is heading towards a very miserable future version of himself.
The guy has done major damage to himself in a relatively short period of time.

Is this the result of strict curls?

he did tear a bicep doing it.

The video must be mislabeled. P should be replaced with a W. WR not PR

LOL - 'super rare' genetic FSGS of peace... ;D

The rhabdo? Maybe... But I think Hanky got his organ failure before he started doing strict curls. So it might not be specific to the exercise. ;D
