Hardest man I’ve ever seen or known
A brutal machine
Saw him put away 9 in 10 seconds at the Conti in Liverpool
None of the top martial arts guys would go near him
-
Sounds like a really cool dude.
-
Im sure Brian will be able to take him...
-
You guys have any video of him where the opponents are not Just standing?

You mean where they are sitting or lying down?
This guy was not a cage fighter or boxer, he was a close quarter sh*tkicker.

I remember when his grandad, Ronald, mowed down 20 Krauts outside of Normandy. Gave ‘em smokes first too.

He got called in to a club in Preston where gypsuies had taken over
3 minutes
14 kids with at least one broken leg.
As I say I’d rather fight a tsunami than him
A mate of ours had a go kart track indoors - a group of lads with Curtis warren visited him to tell him it was there’s nd they would run acid raves there
Gary spiers was a mate of the lad
He turned up the tocky lads literally lid to leave
Brian Hankins would do him haha

I thought it was just another Mc Dojo guy but he seems legit and the stuff he teaches are actually useful in a fight.

Gary Spiers left New Zealand more than 30 years ago with nothing and, despite earning notoriety as a hardman on the streets of Liverpool, he will return unknown.
The 57-year-old died of a heart attack, leaving behind a legacy of protection - from acting as Michael Jackson's bodyguard to training thousands in his visionary style of karate.
Now arrangements have begun to bring his body home for a traditional Maori burial after a millionaire nightclub owner reportedly offered to foot the bill.
Standing 1.9m and weighing 130kg, Mr Spiers was famous in martial arts circles worldwide and was one of the great characters of the Merseyside nightclub scene after two decades as a doorman.
He was known as the best. In 1988, he was hand-picked by Jackson's management to guard the superstar during his big concert at Aintree racecourse.

I love the silly uniforms Karate instructors wear.

Akuma was better

Met him in the very early 90's (or late 80's, can't recall). He was the fastest biggest bastard I'd ever seen. Really nice funny as fuck guy but there's no way I'd have wanted to be on his bad side.
I didn't realise it was a heart attack that took him. I thought I'd read somewhere it was pancreatitis.
Very surprised to learn his nephew is Rick Spain - Sydney wing chun and BJJ teacher.

I have met some hard asses, no doubt great bouncers (combat wise), but when challenged to go to the ring, pride took over and they declined. A loss would be too heavy to their fragile ego.

Because they are restricted by rules
There are no rules if you are fighting for your life

Akuma was better
Akuma = Gary Spiers
Same thing

You mean inflicting the most punishment while trying to avoid criminal repercussion?
I know the "lifestyle".
Fuckers are only at peace punching others in a total disproportionate manner, just to pretend in their distorted mind they are the 2nd coming of the comic book "Punisher".

Im not condoning it Im stating a fact.
I read Lenny McLeans book, he just comes across as something he claims to detest, a bully.
Even Frank Warren who knew him well said exactly the same thing

I have no doubt about his feelling regarding his actions.
Those guys, and i apologise for the generalization, remind me of the character "Bob" in the movie "The Drop" with James Gandolfini, when he shoots another criminal "Eric Deeds" in the neck, in front of his girlfriend, and tells her he is not like him, a criminal.

Great movie
Yep, he killed the guy who "bulletneck" had claimed to have killed because Gandolfini owed him money.

Hey, why don't you come over to my pad later and let me show you a new move....
Seriously though, his teachings look sound and effective. Defensive offense is what my instructor once called it. Let's face it, in a crowded bar no one is throwing a kick to the head or finding the room to throw a haymaker that removes 1/3 of the other person's elementary school lessons from his head. And if going to the ground (where most fights up end anyway), staying on the ground isn't an option because 1) the other dude's buddies will just try to stomp you if you are winning 2) both of the fighters just try to get back up as fast as possible anyway.

Punching someone in the head seems like a good strategy but you'll likely break your hand.
Boxers wear hand wraps and gloves. MMA fighters wear gloves.
Boxers have even broken their hands wearing wraps and gloves.
You wear gloves hitting a heavy bag.
This is why the old time karatekas conditioned their hands. The problem with that is turning your hands into clubs messes up your hands.
Even so, the target of a karate punch was usually the solar plexus, a soft target.
Spiers goes after soft targets or uses elbows against the head. Smart.
