I now know what they mean about "debilitating back spasms". Timing of my vacation (this week) couldn't be better! ::)
At least we only had day-trips planned, easy to cancel!

Ouch.

I feel your pain, bro, because the same fucking thing happened to my right shoulder just recently.  Did lots of heavy overhead presses and heavy lateral raises on Sunday 8/13.  My shoulder started cramping up that same evening, and by the next day I could hardly move my arm.  Took about a week to get back to a reasonable range of motion.  It still fucking hurts, lol.

I don't usually train shoulders too heavy due to some old injuries, and shouldn't have gotten carried away.  :-\

Current thinking is that inflammation leads to health problems.

Excessive high intensity training is inflammatory.

Mike was Mensa.

I am with you on this, my friend.   To his Mensa level mind we can add that Mike was pure mesomorph.    A deadly combination if ever there were one. ;D

In the early 20002s "Dinosaur Training" for a couple of years got to me in the same way H.I.T. does.  My shoulders and elbows were stiff from that style of hard training which to be honest, I somewhat enjoyed.  Legs were never a problem from either training style.

Despite my ego I was able to stop Dinosaur Training and only included it or H.I.T.  if I felt real good but for the last year or so I haven't.  ;D

It's all a grand experiment.

When I was young I would have lower back problems cause I always pushed the weight used in stuff like squats and deads.  Then I had many decades where I thought my lower back was bullet proof. Recently started to have problems again that I fixed by lowering the weight on one exercise.

Not a doctor here but I believe I made my lower back "bullet" proof through two exercises. If you have disks problems where nerves are being compressed my advices will make your lower back problem way worst instead of better. One was the stiff leg dead lift off a block going for a stretch. I know the fashion today is to keep the back straight and just go where the hamstring stretch is but I rounded my back.  I went slow into the negative.  Don't go crazy with the weight. In my younger days I used 225lbs and in my 50's/60's 205lbs was the max weight. Recently I went down to 185lbs and just did the movement slow.  The second exercise was the old fashion horizontal back extension.  The new 45 degree ones are horrible because the resistance falls off at the top.

nope not if you use a band, i would hold the band in my fists in front of my face and not behind my neck.
I have seen it held around the shoulder area too so no strain on the neck

I would personnaly be very wary of hyperextensions.

People whith an "extension intolerant" spine should be extra cautious.

To give you an idea, the "superman exercise" creates about 6000N ( 1350 lbs ) of compression to the spine, overloads the facet joints, and crushes the interspinous ligaments.

Hey asshole, do  squats in sets of 10 or 20 reps with no weight added obviously cause your hurting.... Do as many sets as you feel like doing. Do them everyday your lower back will feel about 50 percent better on the third day, do them deep and wide stance.

Do about 5 sets a day every this works
