I was rooting for him.

Should have brought it down and rolled towards waist. Not neck. Tighten the abs and you will be fine but towards neck could have been lights out. Or don’t have collars on and just tip it.
-
That’s why I have racks for every exercise that can get dangerous in my home gym.
-
I always used safety racks benching and squatting. Failed a bunch of times but I was always safe training by myself.

Brian will read this and do exactly the opposite like he always done when he gets advice,
Fingers crossed.

Agreed roll down waist never over your neck better yet don't use collars and just dump one side

Brother can’t afford a rack. Mistake number 1 was using clips

Guy at the gym uses collars, and uses DL straps when he's benching. (Wrenches his fucking hands to the bar).
Literally tying himself to a barbell that he struggles with.
-
Natural selection, due to shock on his nervous system, he probably had one last massive boner, nutted maybe, which luckily won't bear any offspring!

Educate the fool.

I don't know why people use collars on bench. To avoid hitting someone if you have to dump the weight I guess?

Nah... I stopped trying to help people a decade ago (Unless someone asks for it). No one wants to hear it...

LOL.
Looked like a pretty good way to die, TBH. Getting slowly choked out to a smooth classic from The Isley Brothers. You'd be a fool not to turn it into an asphyxi-wank with your spare hand.

Yeah I guess but I’ve dumped some big weight a few times in my day. I was at babson college In Wellesley ma and I was low incline benching 315 then 365 and had to dump the 365 and it made a a hell of a noise and I got thrown out cause it was a prissy rich kid school gym. Then dumped 405 and 495 flat benching at a couple other gyms. People freak out and get very scared when they hear the clanging of all those plates which I understand but in just never liked having a spotter.haha. I am suprised no one got hurt cause I’ve prob dumped a good 10 times total.

Sometimes, with really big benchers, they can get to where rattling off plates can be a concern. Also with a lot of sloppy, fast benchers with cheap plates, they can rattle the plate spacing wide enough that it effects bar balance over multiple sets. I see this in hood gyms a lot - "look at how fast I can move that weight son!", and you look at the bar and there's .5-1" space between each plate by the end. But that's an easy fix of just straightening them between sets.
I think for a lot of guys it's just pomp and circumstance of lifting, the pageantry of it all. You get the bar just right, the bench, then the collars, etc...., etc....

The only good reason I see for using wrist straps for bench press is to somehow secure the hand to the bar when using a thumbless grip.
I did it in the past, it's actually not bad at all.
The other reason I could see is to relieve forearm pain around the extensors area
(https://www.muscle-joint-pain.com/wp-content/uploads//extensor-carpi-radialis-longus-pain.jpg)
I remember helping a buddy of mine with this little trick. He was complaining about forearm/hand pain when benchin. I threw my pair of straps at him and said, "try it with these."
He was desperate so he did, and lo and behold, he didn't feel any pain during the set

Sometimes it's just better to use a machine...Especially when you are alone.
