I was hoping he would have hit one of them. Not to Monday morning quarterback but I would have waited for the door to break in for a clear shot. Regardless the shooter was successful in protecting himself and the woman. That's a win.

The term "burglars," laden with presumptions, might in truth veil a more intricate and sinister design beneath its surface. >:( Could it be that these purported malefactors were in fact conspirators, intricately interwoven with the very homeowner they seemingly opposed? The neighbors, living but a hallway away, were oblivious to the orchestration of doom that might have been unfolding. ;)

I'm not a gun expert at all, but I've heard shotguns are preferable for apartment defense since it won't go through the doors or walls. Of course, then he'd have to let them in through the door first.

Depends on the size of the shot in the shotgun shell. Shot guns can be loaded for doves to bears. Small shot is called birdshot and larger is called buckshot. Larger buckshot would go right through the door. Bird shot for self defense like #4 fine is devastating against a human but only for about five yards. It only penetrates about 4 inches but at close range all that bird shot will stop a man at pumpkin seed spitting distances. Wouldn't want a face full of that at 3 yards.
