still doing these forms daily
-
-
posted this a long time ago but itīs still the best video.
-
excellent
-
One of the best in Balintawak
-
This man is a true Professional
-
Informative videos.
-
Informative videos.
well i hope so, even though this is a bodybuilding site Wing Tsun friends train with me in the Gym.
-
I find now that in my older years i am actually faster & much more disciplined in my training.
-
&t=10s
-
-
heīs totally correct the best Wing Tsun came from Germany & infact most of the best students in the USA learned this system.
-
-
excellent chi sao
-
-
-
nice chain punches
-
Everybody have fun tonight.
Everybody Wang Chung tonight.

First Form

Donnie Yen as Wing Chun master "Yip Man"
-
Donnie Yen as Wing Chun master "Yip Man"
Never watched it but itīs almost as bad as the 70s kung fu films.
-
second Form
-
GM Bobby
-
A good man
-
Philipp Bayer is a true pro who brought Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun to Germany & Europe.
-
I love the Filipino systems
-
Filipino boxing is also interesting. I like their strikes which are also like slaps, even head butts in there all good stuff
-
of course a knife is very fast & a slight wrist movement can change the angle but better to learn about a knife than be ignorant.
-
what i did learn in my years of Aikido was Tai sabaki, body & feet movements.
Important in every system.
-
Tai sabaki is important. Emin is a great guy.
-
but can they do it under pressure in a real fight
-
but can they do it under pressure in a real fight
Wing Tsun or Wing Chun is chinese Boxing which is like western boxing or in Eskrima with a slightly different emphasis in its techniques, the goals however are the same.
Itīs very difficult to explain this on the internet
-
A good video for Home trainers. I still train with weights but some donīt.
-
interesting is in Filipino Boxing thereīs a type of " Chi sao"
Many systems are related in some way. This is very evident.
-
-
He is well known in the Jeet Kune do world. Jeet Kune do has a small element of Wing Tsun but many other great techniques
-
this is an exercise i find very useful for martial arts training with high reps for endurance in the shoulders to keep your hands up.
-
Rene Latosa was a very friendly guy on seminars
-
Rene Latosa (RIP)

but can they do it under pressure in a real fight
For self-defense purposes these techniques work well.
They are not meant to be used (in fact cannot be used) in a cage fight like UFC or MMA.
Example where self-defense techniques are meant to be used:
A mugger attacks you on the street.
You kick him in the balls, side kick his knee or stick your fingers in his eye, punch him in the solar plexus.
All vital points.
This gives you time to escape.
You don't want to be rolling around trying to get an armbar on the street.
-
a legend in FMA
-
an old man in the videos but a warrior in the true sense in his youth.
These guys did actually fight each other in the past.
-
outstanding !
-
-
what i find interesting is these older systems & people like Bill Newman (EWTO) incorporate middle age fighting into his Escrima system.
-
-
Good stuff
-
Bill Newman on the 2nd video you see his love of Medieval weapons.
-
Emin is the best i have ever met in WT
-
-
:)
-
Balintawak is definitely one of the most effective systems around.
no fancy shit just direct
-
Itīs actually quite interesting how methods changed slightly when wearing armour & this would probably have played a big role in the combat between the Natives who used a type of escrima against the spanish who wore some armour.
Modern systems of escrima such as Latosa escrima train in medieval weapons.
It makes sense to learn from the enemy & use what is useful.
-
Going to a seminar to look at this style of Kali .. Pekiti Tirsia Kali
Looks great
-
excellent
-
He was a very old man when this was filmed but as a young man he was very fast & could strike multiple times.
what i like about FMA is their casual attitude, not stiff like the Japanese systems.
-
-
The Filipino FMA guys actually remind me of the Gurkhas i met in the Army.
smile at you then cut off your head :)
-
and to think these old guys live in a village somewhere & are very unassuming
-
WOW..this is Gold, sorry about the quality but the speed of their moves is amazing to watch (at least for me)
-
This is actually very interesting from a bodybuilding point of view & for FMA. I actually never really thought about the hand muscles or fingers so deeply until one day some years back i got slashed by a knife in my hand & had a small OP.
Gymnasts are amazing specimens indeed.
-
Tommy Carruthers is very fast..impressive :)
-
what i find funny is the "hidden costs" in some Organisations where they try to pretend thereīs some hidden secrets in Wing Tsun such as the latter forms with the double knives or wooden Dummy forms.
Nothing is secret just a money scam in some Organisations & i realised this quickly not just my intuition but speaking to many people who were in these organisations.
Ip Chun no secrets just hard work
-
-
Interesting stuff, Donny.
-
Interesting stuff, Donny.
yes even as a kid i was interested in lifting & martial arts. Not Bullshit stuff but boxing & Judo, Aikido i like because of the traditional Background.
I love the Sabaki the movements which are important even in boxing or any other martial arts
-
Tai Sabaki is something very few people understand, body movements..maximum efficiency.
-
exactly why you canīt trust these Rag Heads
-
Good stuff
-
Wado Ryu in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful schools of Karate.
The Japanese Shindo Yoshin Ryu in the Karate is highly evident.
-
The Tai Sabaki is outstanding .. short & fast
Suzuki Sensei told me , "not like Aikido, not like Shotokan.. not power like Shotokan "
I still have a letter from him. Very friendly man.
-
-
a lot of "Traditionell" schools of WC / VT donīt have Ground fighting but as i wrote before on this thread some WT schools here in Europe have added it to their systems.
Still not up to the standards of say BJJ or some other arts.
-
The essence of Budo
-
Kenji Tomiki who combined Judo & Aikido to form his own ideas . Brilliant & he really understood Tai sabaki
-
-
:)

Two guys flailing away with sticks. ^
Doesn't look like much skill involved.

obviously youīve never tried Escrima/Kali & letīs be honest "skill" is practiced but reality in sparring looks different.
Look at Karate-do kata looks all very nice but then look at competition.

Those dog brothers vids are just two guys beating each other with sticks.
Then they wrestle until one tackles the other.
Yes, no doubt getting hit hurts but there is little skill there beyond sheer aggression.
I'm not talking about real highly skilled stickfighting like you refer too.

Dog brothers is a system that tries to be "real" & incorporates techniques from other martial arts.
Real street fights donīt look like Hollywood films.
I would say that anyone who really can have an opinion on it should have at least tried it.
I train in another system but i have visited seminars from Dog Brothers. Remember one youTube video doenīt show the whole system

Apparently their "system" is beating each other with sticks and then wrestling.
It is what it looks like.
The "real-ness" is beating on someone with a stick.
What technique is it other than that? Ordinary footwork maybe. Throw in some punches and kicks.
Is it effective in a fight? Yes, just like beating someone with a club is effective.
Beyond that, other than aggression, there is not much going on.

as i wrote before try their training & sparring they do & then you can maybe contribute to their system, at least where they train in your area.
You do have a good point though raw aggression can beat skill .. so maybe itīs better to train in a realistic manner?
-
afraid the tone is crap but can see what heīs doing .

This reminds me of Wally Jaysīs small circle ju jitsu
-
I bought Wally Jay's Small Circle book a long time ago.
Good stuff.
I didn't have anyone to practice with so never learned any of it.
Donated the book to the local library.

I first heard about him from a PTI instructor who was a mate of mine in the Army. He knew a few good things & i loved the wrist & finger locks.
very hard to do but effective when done.
I always in Judo went for the elbow locks.
Interesting is the techniques in escrima /kali which are pretty realistic ( against a blade itīs very hard ) however the logical thinking behind it in the "Tapi-Tapi" is not so bad.
-
I was reading this morning that he did integrate techniques from Wally Jay into his system of Modern Arnis as well as Karate, Judo & probably Aikido.
-
Fighting systems have many roots

Donny,
I'm asking this seriously.
Do you practice Wing Tzun regularly and if so what is your practice routine?
Do you have a wooden man?
-
Bruce Lee liked French Savate & Thai boxing
i=XdHLoue1pDdsKwz2
-
Shitty sound but good to watch the Savate techniques

This is cool... George Hackenschmidt wrestling in London 1908
-
Great vids, Donny.
The Bruce Lee vid shows his incredible speed. I can't comment on the accuracy of his depiction of those styles.
I wonder if his clothes were specially made to allow such flexible movements?
Chuck Norris had special pants with elastic in them to allow high kicks.
That Hackenschmidt vid...at 7:46 Hack should have been on his toes to put more weight on the opponent and finish the pin.

Iīve no idea but some of his suits looked very tight fitting so yes they could have been specially made for him ( stretch material ) ;D
-
I think you should wear normal everyday clothes that are restrictive to practice self-defense.
Practice while wearing jeans for example.
Most normal pants do not allow higher kicks.
Are you going to walk around in a gi normally?
Also you will most likely be wearing shoes.
Practice techniques that work while wearing everyday clothes.
What do you think, Donny?

If Weider could be called the Father of Bodybuilding then this man was truly the Father of Wing Tsun in Europe; Keith R Kernspecht RIP

He was a charismatic figure who was a very clever business man ..
-
This is how Wing Tsun sparring was when i first trained in `94.. The First group i trained in only used gloves no other protection.

Do those guys have eye protection? They should.
-
they have better equipment nowadays. The white gloves at the top were standard in the 80īs & 90īs . when serious sparring was done a head guard was used like for boxing sparring.

The Chain punch in Wing Tzun but Dai Sifu Emin Boztepe explained it better in videos i posted.
-
The reason i posted the above video is, the best Wing Tsun fighters are not in Hong Kong.
-
Footwork is important.. i always liked Bruce Leeīs Footwork in Jeet Kune do

I trained at William Cheung's Wing Chun studio in La for a few years. It was on Pico and Lincoln in Santa Monica then moved around LA. I trained under Sifu Eric Oram and Sifu Joe Sayah. Joe was a cool dude from Australia who admitted that Wing Chun was not effective in a real fight but had great things you could incorporate into a more complete fighting style. Bruce Lee studied Wing Chun under Yip Man but saw those limitations, which is where he started conceiving of Jeet Kune Do.
Joe tried to fight in kickboxing using Wing Chun(see the roll punch and extended hands) and it didn't go too well as you can see. He quickly starts abandoning Wing Chun but it was too late

Nice..yes some people laugh at Bruce Lee but he was really ahead of his time.
-
Interesting stuff.
Wing Chun is not a method for fighting in a ring or cage.
It's a self-defense method which is very different from ring or cage fighting.
It's useful to get yourself quickly out of a street encounter and allow you to get away.
Sayeh started out good and what he did would be very effective in a brief street encounter.
-
Wing Tzun is for fighting it depends on the person, the same could be said about Karate-do. Itīs not the system but the man.
However no system is perfect hence why things change. In the Wing Chun system there is many interpretations because everyone teaching adds their own twist to it.

this is fucking Gold ...shows the Ving Tsun he learned from Wong Shun Leung

It's not good for sport fighting like MMA or the like.
For self-defense it is useful.
Bruce Lee gave it up as it did not work as well as boxing with footwork from fencing.
Lee also used kicks from Tae Kwon Do.

According to Dan Inosanto in a video he said Bruce Lee changed techniques even monthly in his system.
As did Dan later on bringing more Kali into his interpretation of Jeet kune do.
I believe originally Bruce Lee used more Thai boxing & Savate in his system as far as kicking goes, certainly in his Original programme in Gung Fu Thai kickboxing was very evident.
