Title: 40 years ago today
Post by: BlackMetallic on September 26, 2023, 07:41:18 AM
Edit: I was 9 years old when this album was released

They were a metal band for less than 2 years
The bassist dabbled in wannabe satanism

There’s nothing glam about this album music wise other than the bands dress attire

In the beginning we were street punk band, then a hard rock band, then a glam band, and with GGG’s and Dr Feelgood we were just a rock band. You know what we’ve never been? A heavy metal band- Nikki Sixx

Vince Neil would be known as the evil David Lee Roth
4 high school dropouts
4 guys who couldn’t play very well

They had a dick for a lead singer
An old man who could only solo on one string (Mick was always my favorite)
A bassist who couldn’t play but could write music
A 10 year old kid with Add trapped inside a 6’3 drummers body.

And yet they seemed to make it work
They lost me on T.O.P

Holy Diver May 25, 1983
Metal Health March 11, 1983
Pyromania January 20 1983
Ride The Lightning July 25 1983
Bark At The Moon Nov 18 1983
Show no mercy Dec 3 1983
Melissa Oct 30 1983

Please add to this list for albums that helped kick off 1983

Not a fan.

Considering your name, do you like any black metal?

Loved "Shout" when it came out... Same thing, T.O.P. came out and it killed it for me.
From "Shout at the Devil" to "Home Sweet Home"...  ::)

Sum

My handle comes from Catherine Wheel an English alternative rock band. They had a song called Black Metallic. The bands guitarist Rob Dickinson (cousin of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson)

Debate all you want (I consider all Crue albums various strains of pop-ish metal), but SatD is a heavy metal record. Period.

Nikki suxx. Vince is cool but a wasted burnout. Tommy is a complete tool. Mick is an average player who many too-young-to-have-been-there fans have elevated to a level of virtuosity nowhere near reflective of reality (albeit who recorded some kickass riffs). DeMartini, Lynch, Le Tekro, Beach, Bratta, VH, Watson, Gillis, Lee, etc., anyone?

The return of the band after its celebrated farewell tour is insanely insulting and pathetic.

Further, continuing without Mars, especially when they now SUCK so hard, is disgusting.

So Megadeth is NOT Death Metal?

It is speed metal (debut) graduating to what became thrash metal. Then becoming straight heavy metal before again descending into elements of tech thrash and traditional.

Or something like that.

Own EVERYTHING, of course.

Dave Mustaine is one of the architects of thrash. Awesome songwriter and rhythm guitarist.

Thrash evolved from speed, with Canada leading that charge with bands like Exciter, Razor and Anvil. Speed also sprung the branch that is power metal, adding melodic vocals and musical elements.
