This 23 year old young man broke the record by 34 seconds running the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours and 35 seconds. That's a 4:35 min per mile pace for 2 hours. What the absolute fuck!
This was his first marathon in America. What an amazing feat and bright future. Wow.
My best mile was 5:05 and I was 13 years old. Lol
I'd love to know his VO2 max.

Insane a human can run that fast for that long. For non runners, most commercial treadmills on go to a 5 minute or 6 minutes mile at full speed. He ran 26 4:26 miles.

He’d run even faster if it was a 39” tv (heavier I know but worth more)

WTF we're at the cusp of breaking the 2hr mark for the marathon?? Absolutely mindblowing stuff.
I watched the Chicago Marathon from the sidelines a few years back, and even at mile 11-12 the leaders of the race were flying by at a pace that was faster than most could sprint. The way the top marathoners maintain a fast speed for so long is hard to imagine until you see it in person

I ran a half marathon once and by mile 4 the Kenyans were coming back meeting me on the bridge at mile 11-12. Shit was pretty crazy. I’m not a runner though, ran that in just about two hours so for someone to run twice the pace I was is incredible.

I ran a 5K in 18:26 as a teen- the winner finished 3 minutes ahead of me, or about half mile. I quite running shortly thereafter, haha.

This is the Bolt or Michael Jordan of the Marathon. Kiptum is a young phenom:
Eliud Kipchoge EGH (born 5 November 1984[2]) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon and formerly specialized at the 5000 metre distance. Regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners of all time, he is the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon champion, and was the world record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:01:09 set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon,[3] until that record was broken by Kelvin Kiptum at the Chicago Marathon on 8 October 2023 with a time of 2:00:35. He has run five of the nine fastest marathons in history.[4]
