Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana just withdrew from consideration for the speakership. This leaves the house leaderless and the G.O.P. in chaos (what say you, Chaos?).
While house democrats unanimously support representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York. There is a big divide between the MAGA folks and the rest of the republicans. If they cannot get their act together, Hakeem Jeffries may end up speaker of the house. How interesting is that?
To win the gavel, any candidate needs support from a majority of the House members present, meaning the eventual speaker will need 217 votes. Steve Scalise fell far short of that number.

I'm obviously not a government expert. I said 10 days ago Gaetz would fail in his bid to remove the Speaker. But I would bet some money that as dysfunctional as the House Republicans are, they would NOT allow a Democrat to take that position.

Don't be too concerned about not being a government expert. The so-called experts are failing miserably. Like you, I am not an expert either and I agree with you, I don't see the House Republicans giving up the Speakership to a Democrat.
