look at the equipment they had back in the 60s and 70s etc. Basic stuff. Nothing fancy. Weights dumbells benches and a few machines ( lat machine, leg extension leg curl etc) . no hammer strength  very few used nautilus and lifting gloves were not even around and you would be called a sissy nancy if you did use them. Some had makeshift benches bars and stuff. Golds gym was tiny and joe gold made everything in it ( almost)  And look at how the guys all looked!! Amazing. So much better than todays guys ( and girls) These guys worked hard and long and ate good but didnt count "micros" or even grams of protein etc. They trained heavy off season and lighter for a contest. Ate meat and a few veggies to cut up and whatever they wanted to bulk. Basically NO cardio ( and notice they didnt lose muscle for a show).  And people nowdays have to have the latest gadgets and machines and carry their food and count grams and do everything they can that comes out and they all look like shit.  They rely on drugs to build and to cut. Bring back the golden era.

Thanks for posting that GR! Dumbbells, barbells, a rack and a bench can build an incredible physique.

In 50 years they're gonna think of the 2020s as the "golden era", telling themselves how great everything used to be back then, hope this helps...

Nah - today's bodybuilders have gone off the charts with drug use. Show me a turtle belly on any of the 70's bodybuilders.

Great post!  Arnold, Callard and Franco use to run a little. Roger said he would get together with Arnold for runs. The work ethic they had back then was huge. Today it's all about the drugs.

Yeah, the sport is going to have to undergo a major change.  The pros today don't appeal to anyone except for a small fringe/niche group of fans-relatively speaking.  Without any print magazines covering the contests there isn't going to be any chronicle of contests. Even guys who take diet and training very seriously can't relate to a current pro.

I guess classic and physique are getting more popular.  But with the open how much further can you push it? It's already incredibly unhealthy at that level.  Unless a reliable myostatin inhibitor comes along , how much more gear can these guys take? I mean are we going to start seeing 300-350 lb bodybuilders? It just doesn't seem like the sport has a great future. It seems to be dying a slow death.

Well done Rambone!
That’s a little known fact, but when you get into other high end hair pieces it’s a small world. We can also throw Ohearn and Stallone into this group.

Always liked the dumbbells that were plates like the GPI, ivanko, pro style ones, I hate that majority of all gyms now  use the solid block looking ones like LA fitness and 24 hour fitness

Same here.. I hate the Hex ones, or "ergonomic handles" and not a fan of most solid rubber ones (unless they have a good handle).
Pro-style assembled with the plates are the best...

Aesthetically, I like the cannonball style, but for utility, the pro-style are hard to beat.

That is actually the only one I have. I have a buddy who I trained with and he was a ft worth fireman.Back in the 80s they were tearing down the old fire station downtown and they found a pair of these. They gave them to my buddy because he was a power lifter and he gave me this one as a souvenir for helping him train for a meet.

We had a pair of 80`s at he old YMCA but the 65`s, though both solid were different shapes..........the others were all globes up to the 100 pounders.

I remember as a kid watching Dave Mastorakis use the 100`s with plates tied onto them with nylon cord.  :D

I collected vintage equipment for 25 years or so... I still have some  York and Jackson globes, but recently sold off a ton (downsizing).

I recently sold some pairs of Jackson 70's (for 1K) and some 50's (for 1K) etc... The collectors are paying big $$ again for them..
