I prefer the 1911-ish grip angle of the Springfield XDM.

RIP either way.

I have the 43xMOS, 17, 19 and a 34 I use for USPSA comps but I use the 19 every week at the range. I might clean it once a month after about 2000 rounds. No malfunctions, extremely reliable and simple to maintain with only 34 parts

I carry a 43x daily.

I have more handguns than i'd care to admit online, Glocks are the most consistent and reliable, just need to upgrade sights and trigger. I clean every 1000ish rounds as well.

Been shooting a Sig M17 lately, fun to shoot.

I do 3 gun stuff a few times a year.

It's addicting and you will meet some great people to learn from.

I got into comp shooting purely to get training from better shooters.

Met some really cool people that i've been friends with for years.

Glocks are great. I even like the combat sights they come with that the majority hate. They never jam. They just work. One thing I hate is the garbage trigger on them but it's usable to qualify without a miss. Then again I could only judge by my model 43.  A very usable firearm.

I also had the Sig 365. Just about the same size. If I would bet which would last 50 years with no problems I would bet the 43. The Sig 365 has an outstanding trigger. It's very light and crisp.  It's super light and the take up isn't a hinderance to accurate shooting. The factory sights are excellent with no need to change out. The sig 365 with  standard magazines is 10 and one. The Glock 43 is 6 and one with the standard magazines. I gave to Glock 43 to my son in law who is a cop and can only carry Glock products by regulation. Sometimes I switch out the Sig 365 slide to the SAS one with that crazy unique sighting system. Definitely not a target sight but for combat with aging eyes it's a win. Although I have bigger handguns the point of carrying a firearm is concealment.  If you live in a cold climate you can get away carrying anything because of the way you dress. In hot weather climates your gun better be small and accurate.

My other carry option is Smith J frame model 60 Chief revolver. Retired I don't see my self fighting multiple armed opponents and the need for a 15 magazine with spare 15 round magazines. The five shot is more than adequate with a speed loader or speed strip to reload.
Not a huge fan of plastic striker fired semi autos though I carry one. I have an old Sig 239 which is an all metal DAO first shot and single for the following and has a decocker. The trigger from the factory on that is beyond amazing. Feels like a custom target competition trigger.

One thing I will say is people get lulled into a false sense of security with shooting paper targets. They are not shooting back. They stay fixed in one place. Sometimes the bad guy is moving as well as the good guy. In real world shooting there are a lot of misses sometimes even with good shots.  Most shootings happen under 10 yards. If you're a decent shot you can hit that without even using the sights. That leads me to the fact that the first one to hit normally wins. These idiot criminals with all these high capacity magazine Glocks are unknowingly very effective.  With just about zero range time they spray the whole magazine out at their target as fast as they can pull the trigger. They can miss a lot but at close range they are in mathematical probability of going to connect. That's why on the range when I see someone that is target shooting for concealed carry standing taking two seconds a shoot is doing himself a disservice. A scum bag criminal is going to send five or more bullets toward him in that time.

I've legally carried a firearm for 41 years.
