RIP
official_rxmuscle
Sad news to report as Johnnie Morant, 1989 NPC North American Championships Overall Winner and icon of New Jersey bodybuilding, has passed away. We pass our warmest thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, and followers.
-
One of my favorites in the early 90โs!!!!
-
Damn. Couldnโt have been that old:
๐๐๐
-
Wouldn't have thought he'd go early, he ran a successful gym / training business in NJ. RIP.
Hard to find recent pics, but here's one from a few years ago -

I think he'd be in his mid 50s.

Doing curls with 300LB
-
Saw and met him at the 1990 Night Of Champions ( have pics somewhere) .. was only 65
-
PIP. All the way big dude. (For some reason Iโd been thinking Johnny Morant was the person running the Charlotte Cup, Johnny Stewart.)
-
Great bodybuilder!!
RIP :(
-
Very cool physique
-
Memento Morant
-
I always found him to be a bigger version of JJ Marsh. Which isn't a bad thing.
Always seemed to be held back by something from achieving the size/conditioning that he needed. Lack of drugs, or maybe too smart to use the amount necessary or whatever. If it were not for the WBF, most would not have ever heard of him.
He did have a really nice physique.
-
Yeah. He was a good bodybuilder. Too bad :(
-
His son Ja Morant plays in the NBA
-
PART OF THE KEMPER CREW DIAMOND GYM...RIP

Essentially the East Coast Mecca back in the day when bodybuilding was a cool sub culture as opposed to the current freak show..

I was at the NOC prejudging and recall he and Robby Robinson high-fiving. It seemed like a passing of the baton at the time.
And Bert Perry yelling "Frank Zane" whenever Francis Benfatto twitched.

His son Ja Morant plays in the NBA
Thatโs not his son

:D
It's even more hilarious in color, the WBF might've failed, but it had personality -

Thatโs not his son
But his son Johnnie Morant Jr did play for Syracuse, was a 5th round draft pick and played three seasons for the Raiders.

Are you talking about Jaโs brother?

Are you talking about Jaโs brother?
Correct, Jrโs other brother is no other than Ja.
The most successful Morant

Vince was always into bodybuilding but he realized dudes standing on a stage and posing is not particularly entertaining.

It was also around the time he was going to court for steroid related charges.
Maybe another reason why he folded the WBF.

Thanks for posting this. This is what I meant by it always seemed that he just couldn't take the next step and "level up" his size game like most pros do after turning pro.

PIP
Wasn't there a PIP list/thread one time of modern-era guys who seemed to PIP too soon - like a 'Romano bodies' list?
Or am I thinking of the one for '80s wrasslers maybe..?
-
Oil Bag Nasser wishes he looked as good in glasses as Johnny did.

I agree, but remember who he was competing against.....those pro lineups back then were all stacked.

The most competitive era in bodybuilding history.
-
I remember Johnny Morant back in the 80s at Diamond gym.The first time I was him, he was on the incline repping out 365! I just started lifting so that was intimidating. Massive guy back in the day in person. RIP

WooooSHHHHHHHHHHH
She is still gorgeous - and much more petite than you'd think.
I mean no disrespect to Ms Murray, but when I met her after a show in the early '90s and got my pic taken with her, I sort of crouched down next her and gently but deliberately squeezed her right delt to see what Ms O felt like - I mean, who wouldn't, right?
I enjoyed it that much my c0ck nearly broke the strap of my bum-bag/fanny-pack* trying to burst out of my Craz-Ee Wear star patterned clown pants... :P
-
The most competitive era in bodybuilding history.
For sure!!
-
OK scanning those threads BB linked me to I have to say I'm astounded that later this year will be 7 years since McCarver and Piana died... SEVEN!
Wow...

FAKE NEWS
The media is trying to rewrite history about Jaโs birth father. They hate bodybuilding, and this may be a race issue as well.

Should have worn striped spandex pants that day and side-donged her

That's awful!! I always consider Morant to be a poor man's Lee Haney. As Platz and McMahon said when he was in the WBF, if he ever puts it altogether (as in condition), LOOK OUT!!
That's the 3rd WBF guy to pass away in the last 5 years or so.
Farewell to the original EXECUTIONER!!
