Title: Bodybuilding vs BMW
Post by: tommywishbone on April 04, 2024, 09:49:19 PM
Greetings to all beautiful motherfckers. Hope everyone is well.

The wife got a new BMW. I am still a competitive bodybuilder.

Her fancy rig has some idiotic “auto shut off” system, that automatically shuts off the engine every single time you stop the car for more than two seconds. It’s some sort of California, go green, save the world bullshit. It’s completely asinine. WTF BMW?  The car should never turn off unless you want to turn it off.

Bodybuilders too should never “stop” talking PEDs once they start. You can switch compounds. You can cruise. You can step on the gas hard. Just never come off.

Moral of the story? None I suppose.

Carry on good people.

On most cars there is an option to disable this feature. Unfortunately it’s not an option on my 2025 Dodge Challenger Nick Walker Edition.

lmao

Imagine buying a car made after 2008.

There's been no good progress since then.  They've just identified more and more ways for cars to annoy their drivers.

A new car is pleb.  An old Volvo is patrician.

This stop/start BS being around for awhile now. I have it on my F150 but  always turn it off. May save you some gas if you drive in lots of traffic and red lights ,but battery and starter lifespan will def. drop  IMO.

All the German makes have it and have had it for some time. Germany is more militant about the environment than the US. However, most of these cars now have mild hybrid systems that make the off and on less noticeable than it used to be. I barely notice it now where in the past it was really annoying. What BMW did she get?

It might save you some fuel, but the "carbon footprint" of the giant battery the car needs is not very greta friendly. Plus the shorter battery/starter engine maintenance intervals.

BMW owns Rolls. If you start taking a Rolls apart you’ll find parts that are marked “BMW.” They are magnificent vehicles nonetheless.

Tommy, just check with the dealer if you can turn this retarded option off. If you're locked out by law and their hands are tied ask for a referral to a mechanic who can 'help you get the most out of your beemr."

You're not asking for a wicked performance chip remap, but I've heard that BMW make a point of keeping their software inaccessible.

I never had issues with the couple I've had. Could've been luck, but I also don't have a lead foot, and beat them up either. But they are cars that you shouldn't have if you live paycheck to paycheck. Having something go wrong could cost you 1,000 or more to fix, but that isn't terrible for a car like that.

All three of my Mercedes since 2015 had this option.  You can usually find a way to turn it off.  Some have it on their menu sub systems.   Some have a button on the console.  Look it the User Guide or online.

Buy a diesel truck, it doesn’t have this silly option.

Idk man. Euro V and VI emissions regulations make for way bigger headaches than gasoline engines. EGR to dust the engine, expensive DPFs that seem designed to fail, and SCR systems that are a big initial outlay and an ongoing tank and maintenance cost. I know tons of guys who have had issues with new diesels.

My next truck will probably be an Isuzu with EGR, and a remapped chip so that it doesn't have EGR anymore. But then you're living a life of crime. No shit. If I was buying a pickup or a car I'd get a gasoline engine.

Maybe the US doesn't have Euro emissions requirements. They're a royal pain in the ass. I'm tempted to just stay in my year 2000 forever or buy pre 08 if I want something bigger than my NPS.

Im in the states. All of my trucks, when out of warranty have the egr deleted and dpf gone. Same with my heavy equipment. Have your vehicles registered in a state with no inspection regulations, for me right over the border, or just find someone who will overlook it or hide it yourself. Or buy a glider kit.

Buy a diesel truck, it doesn’t have this silly option.

Our old 2014 BMW Diesel actually had this option.

Why don't you read the manual instead of writing this totally useless thread?

Why don’t you walk off a pier before posting in this thread?

Hi convict,

I realize you’re new to these parts; so when you pull your nose out of  Hankins butthole it can be very confusing when there are new posts from people you’re not familiar with.

Just so you know The Wishbone is a big deal around here. I realize you don’t know this, but I will share it because Thomas has been very forthcoming with this information; but he CAN NOT read. So let’s keep that in mind when posting something stupid and insensitive.

Moving forward if you are going to post in a thread of his you can address him as sir.

Have a great day!
