Yes. Lee Haney is better than Ronnie Coleman. Lee Haney is better than Phil Heath. Lee is better than Dorian.
For me it's like this. 1. Lee and Dorian did it without "gurus" or coaches. That says alot. 2. Lee is pre site enhancement era. No esiciline and no synthol. At no time during his career did Haney ever have a wide waist or a gut. Dorian did, So did Ronnie now Phil.
Let's attack Lee's so called weaknesses. Arms. No one ever accused Lee of having small arms until the Flex Wheelers, Levrone, Dillett and Vince Taylors came along. Looking at his last show which was his best look in 91 Mr. O. His arms were in proportion with everything else. If anything their arms are blown out and in many cases with foreign substances same with their delts. Next. Quads. I personally favor quads of Lee's era. Not Ronnie and beyond. Overblown body parts are in direct contrast to proportions portion of the show.
So when you add all these things up, Haney wins. No torn biceps or triceps. He had calves. A vacuum, could pose. Never lost as Mr. O. I could go on. He went out on top. All others did not.
The only thing that's changed is the judging and it shouldn't have.
Anyway, Haney is best of all time and the greatest.

Anyway, Haney is best of all time and great
Haney is da GOAT!! 8 "O" Titles, pre SLIN and HGH abuse days. No coach, family man, etc.
Things changed after him, and not for the better...
-
Strong case you got there.
-
Like Haney said he's the " only 8 time Mr Olympia winner with a 31" waist "
-
Probably the best front double of all time
Im nitpicking here but to me he always looked knock kneed in his rear lat spread and double biceps
1mins 50
-
Like Haney said he's the " only 8 time Mr Olympia winner with a 31" waist "
Chest dominant looks better than delt and arm dominant like a Heath.
-
haney was the end of an era, last great champion. it was all downhill after him.
-
Competitors respected each other back then
Not like these fucking little bitches we have today

You're right.

He narrowly beat Dorian so I guess Dorian you can judge on both early and later versions.
Did he deserve to beat Dorian that last year?
I guess so but it seemed pretty close.

Lees balance and flow destroyed Dorian
-
Retired early and at the top, still looks healthy and happy, soft spoken, good family man. I haven't heard anyone speak negatively about Lee. Though I prefer the physique of others over Lee's (chest, abs), Lee doesn't get the respect he deserves and maybe that is partially his own doing/choosing because he stepped away from the bodybuilding world and kept a very low profile.

I think so. It would have been awesome to see what he could have done in 92 and 93. He was only 31 when he retired. But I understand why he did.

His best ever look was his last show, there isnt anyone who has ever done that before or since.
He had nothing esle to prove, he had dealt with the drug tested Olympia in 1990 and struggled like everyone else.
Maybe he felt better with less drugs and 91 made him realise just how much shit he was doing and decised to put his wife and family first.
He owed bodybuilding nothing, he earned everything he got, he never got any "gifts"
-
Good argument for top five. Can't say he's not number one. I still would have to go with Arnold.
-
I agree! Biggest BB I've ever seen in person. He had great seminars back in the 80's too.
(Do BB's still hold seminars these days? I miss seminars and the old courses of the 70's and 80's)
-

Apart from 1980 Arnold had hardly any competition
Joe Weider looked after him, they even told Serge he couldnt compete at the IOlympia in 75 because he had made an adult film, after he went off his diet and lay on the beach then Joe let him back in the show for Pumping Iron filming

To be fair, Weider didn't put him on covers like he did others. Weider pushed others who weren't going to be Mr O as long as Haney was competing. I remember reading that only 2 BB's concerned Haney: Gunnar Rosbo and Matt Mendenhall. I saw Mendenhall in the Weider mags more than I saw Haney.

Agreed Funk... I like Yates too, I just feel things changed w/ him... Again not for the better (IMO only)..

That is true.
Regarding Matt Mendenhall, this is attributed to Lee:
“One of the people that I kept my eye on that I felt was the most gifted bodybuilder that mother nature said ‘here it is’… was Matt Mendenhall. I have never till today seen a physique as complete, as genetically gifted as Matt Mendenhall. Matt was a walking He-Man, he was absolutely beautiful. If this guy ever got it together, he would be a challenge like no other but he lacked that fire and desire”.

I agree on all accounts. Dorian took the size game to a new level and yet single handedly destroyed bodybuilding at the same time. It was going to happen eventually, with Dorian or someone else. Problem lies in the public looking for the BBD, bigger better Deal.
LEE was actually the last Mr Olympia to represent classic lines, mass and unbelievable muscle separation with striations the whole package. He was a great champion as well with a good personality. It's absolute garbage today.
I actually hold Lee Haney in a higher caliber bodybuilding wise than Arnold as well.
He has been overlooked I think because if the mass monster revolution. Big mass without class, cuts just gross short men in thongs with a blob body
I will say that Dorians first Mr Olympia and second where good but not after, Ronnie's first few where good, just not when the guts took over
-
Lee Haney has been the most dominant Olympia winner ever...
No controversy, no torn/injury body parts, no gifts", never lose during or after he won his first of 8 damn Sandow .
The only one
WooooSSHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
Lee was awesome.
Never had any real comp that pushed him outside of Gaspari placing second to him 3x.
Had to retire though - peak Yates and Colemen wax him.
-
Crazy thing that Lee retired with 8 Sandows at the age when some of the pros these days getting into the bodybuilding .NO ONE ever will repeat that ,period .
I’ve met and talked to tons of pros at ASC expos ,but never met Lee .My bucket list to meet TotaLEE awesome.

Yates torso looks “ sad” next to Haneys
-
The last Mr. Olympia to have a classic physique I would want to aspire to. As soon as you lose that tight waist the illusion is shattered.
-
I fully support Lee Haney as the greatest bodybuilder of all time.
-
For me, Haney is the greatest Mr. Olympia of all time, absolutely.
I prefer other winners for specific reasons, but overall, as a complete physique, Lee comes out on top.
And as a bonus, his is one of the best personalities in the entire history of competitive bodybuilding.
Just a fine gentleman.
-
Haney
best of all time in all aspects
-
It`s weird when Haney was on top,I didn`t think that highly of his physique,............looking back now he was fucking great............almost damn near perfect!

Isn't that interesting?
Back in Haney's day, pros could wear street clothes and look like athletes.
-
no
you put every guy ever on stage at their best, he isn't top 10 probably not even top 20
yeah he was a good guy, so what? bodybuilding is not a personality contest
dominated a very weak era, gaspari and labrada were his best competition throughout his reign and those guys aren't even top 30 on the best all time stage
he saw dorian and got scared
saying he's the best is like saying royce gracie is the best mma fighter ever, the sport grew and evolved and he was surpassed

-
Like Haney said he's the " only 8 time Mr Olympia winner with a 31" waist "
Awesome pic in his book which was a very good book.
-
1998 Ronnie was better than Lee, 2008 Mr O version of Dexter, 93 Dorian too
The peak of bbing was def the 90’s up until early 2000’s. After that it was Dan down hill from there

his last Mr. Olympia:
I've seen this a million times and each time it's still a great video. All of it. Just a different time. Lee Haney is one of a kind.
-
Haney had a magical, otherworldly quality to his physique. I won't even try to explain what I mean. But I was hooked on all things bb as an 8 year old kid seeing him :D
Only thing was that he was black, which unconsiously affected how I viewed him, even as a child. Usually black bb fans like other blacks, whites root for whites, it's only natural, you identify with your own.

Lee is one of the bests of all time. I think the 1993 version of Yates destroys him though.

IMO, Haney stayed consistently good while Yates slowly decayed over time.

Haney was the very best of his era, Yates the best of his. Ronnie the best of his, the judging criteria adapted and supported their physiques at that time.
Haney would have had to up the dose to beat or compete with Doz,he retired instead, by the time Ron won shape and symmetry was gone completely for the sake of all size and that's what Ron was. Doz 92,93 shape was shape condition and symmetry was still part of the equation as his waist blew out post 93 and his body tore it started to drift towards the era that supported Ronnie size for the sake of size. I still think he won. those shows but the sport started to regress after 93. and iMO its still is.
-
Dorian 93 was the ultimate combination.
Haney's success at such a young age while preserving
his health, family and legacy are unmatched.
-
And as such Haney had way more opposition hence the better bodybuilder.
How many opponents you face matters at regional and national level. Not at the Olympia when you are the best in the world. How many you face in boxing to become the world champion? The original idea for the Olympia was to be a contest just for the very best in the World, like in boxing. Scott Vs.Pull, Arnold vs Sergio, etc. The many competitors were at the Mr. America, Mr. World, Mr. Universe contests and then the Olympia was in conjunction with this contests as a grand finale saved only for the winners.
E.g. Firrigno beat over 50 people at the IFBB Mr. Universe in 1974 only to be destroyed by Arnold at the Olympia where there were just 4 competitors total, 2 in each weight class.
-
And as such Haney had way more opposition hence the better bodybuilder.
Usually the competition is just by the guys in the first call out anyway, 2, 3, 4 people max (nowadays up to 6 people). The rest are just making the numbers but are not a treat for the title.
If the top physiques in the world are present (the ones with real chances of winning it), how many people get invited to compete at the Olympia doesn't change the outcome of the contest or the rank of the winner.
-
Dorian 93 was the ultimate combination.
Haney's success at such a young age while preserving
his health, family and legacy are unmatched.
agree 100% Haney represents the best overall outcome of any Olympia winner Arnold included just a humble family orientated guy.

A story he told about an old friend.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/acUvHwHF8zjsEYw7/?mibextid=WC7FNe
-
I have watched an interview of Ronnie Coleman where without hesitation he states that give the "technology" of today, no one would be capable of defeating Arnold. Not him. Not Yates and definitely not Haney.
There may have been "more" people showing up to compete in Haney's time but that doesn't mean anything really. People didn't show up to compete against Arnold because he was that much better.
Haney is a nice, family man. Arnold is a cuck of a douche. But Haney is as much of a liar when it comes to "stayroids". I recall when Haney was asked about competing against Arnold and his reply was something about Arnold being fortunate not to have competed in the "age of Haney".
Haney wouldn't stand a chance much less stand in the way of Arnold and his relentless determination coupled with what must surely be the most gifted response to drugs ever. The interview with Ronnie was an eye opener for me. I still think he was stupid to destroy himself but he is Ronnie and that was his life. All of his life and his choice.
But Ronnie said in interview that Arnold on a modern protocol would make him (Ronnie) "look like a little kid" standing next to the Oak. No one could come close. I think he is correct because decades later, there is Arnold and then the rest.
Again, Haney is a much better family man. But that doesn't make him a better bodybuilder, just a better man. And there is honor in that.

It wasn't Ronnie's usual glazed eyes look and he had some gentleman asking him questions and keeping him on track. I think the part of the video where he discussed Arnold, himself and others was perhaps 3 minutes long. Either that or that is the extent of my attention span. ;D

Very true ND......Arnold made bodybuilding and fitness popular......before that it had a tiny niche following and not many guys were doing it on an Olympia type level.
It`s still a niche "sport" but way more popular than it was in Arnolds day.
