Title: What Happened To The Music Industry?
Post by: Palumboism on June 22, 2024, 08:23:39 AM
Rick Beato was a producer in the music industry and he explains what happened over the last twenty five years to lead to today's current music.

I think the music industry was always corrupt.

I recently saw this interview by Darryl Hall from Hall an Oates.  You would think they would both be very well off, but he says they made very little money from record sales.

Irene Cara who sang "What a Feeling" from the movie Flash dance is another who you would think did very well financially, but she wasted years in court with her record company.  When she finally won the record label just declared bankruptcy and she got nothing.  Very slimy and corrupt industry as you say.

Well the good genres died. Metall and rock.

Then even pop music was better. Today most stuff sounds the same, background noise. Nothing innovative. That or n*g*er music. Garbage..

Stupid White people fell for the new version of "Beatnik Poetry" - cRap and Shit-Shop "music".  Black people should be ashamed of that shit as they are the ones who gave America's musical gift first to America and then to the World:  Real Jazz.

Grunge was pretty good but that pretty much faded out after the mid 90s

British 80s wasn't bad like the fixx, human League, etc

It’s propaganda at this point mostly.

There was actually some great alternative made from 2010-2020 that people don’t know about.

There is an agenda now pushing the mumble rappers and Taylor Swift.

They prefer having people with limited talent as they are easier to control.

The music industry has as always been corrupt. I lived in Auburn, NY for a while and became friends with Eric Adams of Manowar. Eric (real name Louie) said he should have never become a musician- all the money is in being an entertainment lawyer.

There was a lot of peaks during that period, but some fantastic stuff has emerged after 2000 - Lamb of God, Powertrip, Hatebreed, etc

It won't resonate with you though since you don't train legs.

Crue didn’t become millionaires till GGG
Dixie Chicks had sold 16 million albums plus extensive touring n they each had less than a million in their accounts
Def Leppard’s Pyromania sold 4 million off the bat and after the tour was finished they still owed the record company millions

For quite some time now most of the money made comes from touring

Record companies have always been evil

The industry also pays for a lot of flops.

People make it sound like all these guys are signing and automatically selling 3 million albums a year. The majority of signed musicians sell less than 1 million records each.

Even the supposed greats, end up having albums that struggle to break the 100,000 copies mark.

It's also worth noting that a lot of these bands piss away insane volumes of money recording albums. Def Leopard spent forever making their albums and it obviously rose the costs of these albums dramatically.

There's no reason you can't record a great album in two weeks. Lots of these sob stories are musicians who fail to plan out their albums before they make them.

The modern music industry exists to brainwash and demoralize people. Just like the Holywood. The mainstream "artists" are carefully selected and turned into what the people pulling the strings want. It's not about the talent, it's about sending the message out there. Then they push the song on all stations untill people accept it. Nothing is left to chance. Nothing. All fake and planned to the smallest detail.

Agreed.  I am an enthusiast of Real Jazz, Traditional Pop Vocals as well as the music of the 40s through 1990.  I despise cRap and Shit-sHop.  The whole "we be rhymin' " BS sickens me.  Buncha fro-babies with zero talent and a fugly wardrobe.  Does that make me a
"RACISS"?

I am human and people that foist BS hatred for whites Whites, Police, Asians Heterosexuals, Homosexuals can all drop dead.  It is beginning to come to light just how fuqued up these Negroes and Wegroes are and what the sick perverted crap they will do to "make it".  Men and women.  It is has long been this way in the movie and music sindustries but now people are hearing about it.

I hope they all kill each other.

Now people pay $400 for a lousy seat to see the current pop star lip synch to musicians pretending to play to the track playing. Too much music is made with computers and engineers. The lip synch tech is so sophisticated now that mixes the live voice with the recorded one. Remember when a band or a singer could actually perform with no tricks or deception?

Very true! Buddy Guy (blues guitarist) owns a club in Chicago and has had many acts play there over the years. He still tours and he's over 80 I think. He says raising the drinking age and stopping people from smoking in bars along with lawsuits against bars for drunk patrons driving has pretty much stopped the club scene and thus less places to play other than bigger halls.

Im bigtime into classic rock,Motown, and mostly the Blues.

True story about Buddy Guy.....he went to Chicago from Mississippi to make some coin playing his guitar....couldn`t get shit for work..........had 5 bucks and a baloney sandwich in his pocket one cold Chicago night and decided to head back down South.

Later that night someone told him Muddy Waters guitarist got sick and they asked Buddy to sit in.....the rest is history.

I know a lot more pretty cool stories about Blues musicians where one guy shot off a piece of his cock sticking up  for Muddy in a bar fight, and another famous guy (James Cotton), had a bullet lodged in his head for decades.....stabbings and brawls etc.....those guys were badass.

Naaah,,, you guys are just plain stupid  ;D You have no inner being or can't analyze the world around you. Sort of just goes-with-the-flow/"don't think about it man"- type of droid/zombie. But that's okay! As most people are like that. That's why a demented/half dead man can be voted in to office to rule the most powerful nation in the world, just as one example.

But I'm not the only one to have these thoughts about stagnation of culture/lack of innovation since about the early 2000's.

The internet definitely can cause information overload. We also now have the choice to listen to all genres of music from any decade so this skews how bad the music is today. We are comparing what is popular right now vs songs from the last 75 years.

Well, not "badass" but very stupid. Drugs, alcohol, always addicted, always getting into trouble, jail, hospital (with no insurance) broke and living on the streets. Typical blues idiots always succesful in ruining their own lives  :-)

Hey,why live in a bubble....they lived life on their own terms.....my motto was always "differentiate from the norm" still fucking is....why be a fucking sheep?

I never conformed to society either.....made tons of mistakes, but I always did what I wanted to do......still fucking do.

I have experienced life,I didn`t hide in my house like some robot who listened to their elders who grew up in vastly different times.
