Title: Bison as a protein source
Post by: Wiggs on July 06, 2024, 04:16:19 AM
Around 2016 I started seeing ground bison in chain grocery stores. I remember seeing a Muscular Development article with Tony Freeman saying he ate bison and he said he felt it went well with him because he was Indian and they were known for eating bison. Back then,  I laughed about the Indian part. I don't laugh anymore...Anyway,
I began incorporating bison to the point now, I eat around 3-4lbs of quality bison per week when I'm training.

To me at this point, it's just a cleaner meat.  The nutrient profiles are more favorable as well.

The taste is great and is identical to lean beef in texture.

Bison definitely has my seal of approval.    8)

Bison and venison are among the leanest meats you can buy. There are venison ranches in upstate NY where I used to live. Bison has recently been introduced to South Carolina so it will become popular soon.

They aren't fattened up with grain like commercial beef.

His infomercials are the best. He acts coked up the whole time. ;D Bison are basically just wild cows.

I live in Northern N.Y. and the people are Venison crazy....personally,I don`t care for it.

When I tell people up here that I don`t really like it much, their standard reply is always...."It has to be cooked just right" !  :D

I miss grain fed beef. Steaks are better in the US imo. Not as good for you, they say, but marbling is tasty.

It's cheap compared to gold.

It's cheap compared to specialty meats.

But if you are comparing to 90% lean beef at walmart, to consume a pound from wild fork instead might cost you an extra $3 a week.

Deer has to be fresh. Typical hunter shoots a deer. Then they field dress it and bring it to their pick up truck. By the time that deer is in their garage is 6-10 hours later. Then hanging they get an appointment to deer butcher and now it's two days later. The meat is garbage by then.  Also deer meat can have parasites.

Bison meat as a protein source is bull.

Correct.  But only the males.

Quote
Male bison are called bulls. They are the largest mammal in North America, and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and stand 6 feet tall at their hump. Bulls are responsible for protecting the herd and growling. They can also be identified by their thick, vertical horns, blocky heads, and large mops of hair.

The guys I know who are super into cooking meats use it regularly.  I just do a butcher box script (/norambone).

Has some very good deals, especially when they put a tomahawk on sale.

The butcher by my house sells top shelf steak and the chicken is so much better than the crap from the supermarket. He has a freezer and sign for exotic meat. He has bison, alligator, elk and bunch of other stuff. He said from time to time he gets a request for it and it's in deep freeze.

What's the most exotic meat you guys have scarfed down?

I had that rotten shark shit in Iceland, forget the name of it.  There's an equally nasty liquor that is paired with it.

What do you consider fresh? 5 hours? Is there wild game meat that doesn’t have parasites ?

For what porpoise?

Srs, I never got the arbitrary objection to mahi mahi.  "How daaare you. I'll have the lamb." It's not even from our ecosystem. Thing lives in the sea. And they're cuntz like any other life form. It's fine. Eat it.

I do draw the line at dogs tho. They just want to be your buddy. Don't eat your buddy.

If I don't end up launched into the sea by trebuchet then I intend to be consumed by puppies. Cute ones with big floppy paws. They can have me.

Dolphins are the dogs of the sea, with Octopi on a PR push lately to make a strong case as well.

Kangaroo is nasty.

I've had kang, alligator, ostrich, rabbit, squirrel, sable, Eiland, elephant, nyala, water buffalo and impala.

The only ones that i would eat again are Eiland, nyala and rabbit.

Pretty sure i ate snake and bugs one night in Thailand while high as fuck on opium. ;D
