I never got how this guy became famous. He didn't look particularly fit.

Knowing what we now know about Hollywood I have a couple of guesses on how he landed tv shows.

True, an exercise guy that was chubby and out of shape. WTF?  Heard in his later years his live in lover took control of his finances.  His family and friends were concerned he was being ripped off.

He was the grandfather of social media influencing.

By recognizing the importance of and targeting the housewife/home bound audience long before anyone else.  Trial blazer actually.

I`d say Jack LaLanne beat him to it my friend.

Jack had an exercise show for years back in the day.

Richard got deal-a-mealed a shitty hand later in life, but he really did care for those fatties. His genius lied in making them comfortable to do things, even if it was just hand raises in their walkers, etc...

Daddy's girl wasn't really a bad girl*, just misunderstood sometimes.

RIP.

* Explained here, very funny -

In some ways, yes.  But Richard was the innovator with taking his program (and himself) mainstream and out of the suburbs housewife's living room.

The guy was an American success story.

I think he had a terminal health issue for years and went out of the spotlight but seemed like a good egg.

I really respect what he's done to help people lose weight. I remember him growing up. He was kind and gentle man.  R.I.P.

I remember that episode when it aired.

He seemed like a decent man.

Yes and he did it in a way that made it easy for people to follow.  No more writing things down or keeping tracks.  You just used the cards.

Wiggs, this place surprises me sometimes. That was a very kind thing to say. I respect that you posted that.

He was relatable for chubster people because he was a once-fat feller who got himself into healthy shape.

The guy was never marketed as a superspecimen or anything.

Just a slimmed-down everyman who happened to be light in the loafers.

Has it been proven he has a small cock?

The answer might forever elude us all.

With a net worth of $15-30 million he certainly did something with his life.  It is curious that (even in the gay community) he was never identified with any kind of companion.  His celebrity peers like Rip Taylor, Liberace, Rock Hudson all and romantic partners whose identities were known in the community, but Simmons was never known to have a romantic partner.  Very odd.

I wonder if he had any family?  Who will take charge of his disposition and estate?

May he rest in peace.

I think he was also promoted as a comedian of sorts.

I remember Letterman spraying him with a fire extinguisher. It was planned of course, Richard taking the role of a bullied person you kind of felt sorry for.

He had a brother that's still alive and some family relations springing off that end of the family tree. He also had a guy that was his personal assistant for many years. The brother mentioned him and Richard were joking about food for his birthday, and Richard related he'd maybe have some cookies, but that was it. He went to sleep a few hours afterward, and didn't wake up.

It was also mentioned he had a bout with skin cancer on his face that he recently had removed.

I wish more people would keep their private lives private.

Ban cookies before bedtime...
