Makes Matarazzo look like a stick figure :o
-
Dude is incredible.
-
Wtf.... Yava labs = castle Frankenstein.
-
Takeo Spikes like neck genetics.
-
If Cormier brings him in shape he could win.
100k in Colombia that’s probably nice house ,car and still some cash left for Pablo Escobar’s organic powdered sugar.
-
Size wise maybe, but Matarazzo had him on freaky.
-
Looks like he has a very exceptionally low IQ
-
Steve davis had some great calves as I recall
the bodybuilder no t the snooker player

Yeah, there's something really off about his skull shape, proportions and facial features/symmetry
I think the correct scientific term is that he has a very small 'brain-hole'
;D

Calves is one bodypart that can absolutely mesmerize even regular folks. When the guy has paper thin skin it's freaky.
My calves never grew at all.

So heavily genetic- I see people in the summer who look like they've never touched a weight and yet have diamond shaped calves. I had a girlfriend some years back who had some if the most perfect calves I've ever seen and she never did anything for them. Maybe it's the high heels, lol.
-
my inner calves are atrophying , outer calves still same
Age and nerve damage no doubt, lost almost 1-5 inches off my calves over the last 2 years

That sucks man, this process isn't reversible either, only gets worse and worse.
In a few years you're gonna look like that

It pisses me off, i don't even wear shorts. I train calves but although muscular there's no mass, pathetic and i train them! For some reason my parents didn't hand me down calves when neither of them were lacking. I was 6 weeks premature, can this affect development..?
Then as you say i see out of shape people, some obese, some skinny, some with no muscle whatsoever but great calves, it really sucks.

lol
I also have shit calves. I mostly keep training them for "health" reasons.
There are one-way valves in the lower body's ciculatory system that keep blood from flowing backward and help push it straight to the heart.
Strong calves might positiviley contribute to this mechanism, I guess ?

The best calves I have ever seen in person was Mike Mattarazzo and Jeff King.....both had insane calf development.

Good calves in the gymrat scene are rare. Really completes a package and people know you take lifting seriously when you have every body part developed. I wouldn't know: mine are nothing special, but hoping to bring them up more.

Rubiel's calves measure 21.7 or 55 cm, larger than his arms.

Dude - do you understand how to play snooker? That shit looks complicated / difficult as hell… I don’t know a ton about pool either but I think there is more money in big pool. It seems like elite snooker players could switch to pool and totally dominate!!

Where does this 'nerve damage' even come from, were you injecting into your calves a lot? ???
-
It comes always from lower back.
This means that you are destroying your intervertebral discs.
Never do a squat, deadlift in your life or leg press that is not circular.
This is of no use for building muscle and will save you a difficult old age.

The funny thing is when I go hiking or cycling or stuff like that I spot atrophied calves regularly even on average Joes and Karens who probably have never seen a gym from the inside ever. Just some fat housewife in her 50s with one fat and one completely atrophied calf and I'm like WTF, how did that happen? lol

:D Huge calves = low IQ

What's a circular leg press?
Agree with your other points. I stopped squatting and deadlifting after a back injury 15 years ago -- and haven't had any back issues since. Hasn't stopped me from building muscle, either.

It's a matter of technique, people have problems because 99% of em are doing compound exercises wrong.
Platz is still squatting, still got his calves and has no knee or back issues at 70

Platz has a unique anatomical morphology similar to that of a dwarf which has protected him from injury. For a Platz, you have millions of practitioners who will blow out their lower backs, knees and hips.
I guess he still doesn't know and has never asked himself the question of how from a mechanical point of view he got away with it and why he can go all the way down without rounding his back.

Because he also worked on his flexibility. Most modern-day dysfunctional BB who lack any flexibility are probably better off with machines, I agree.

The Deadlift has destroyed many a back.
You only get one skeleton in a lifetime

You think the problem is in the back affecting nerves? I always notice these things and I saw Yates also had the "dead calf." ;D
I have major problems now after deadlifting heavy for 25 years but no calf atrophy yet.

Other than shrugs, my least favourite exercise. Never liked it. Could be to do with my height, but they've always felt awkward and uninspiring

True but maybe also saved some backs. I was in major agony now for 2 weeks but did a deadlift session on friday and miraculously the back felt better. It's like my problems always come when I lay off all back training.

Deadlifting has been everything to me, I can't overemphasize the importance lol. A holy mission lol. In my little powerlifting gym no one has beat my max yet ;D
But we are different. For Platz it was squats.

One man's meat is another man's poison
Some people like Deadlifts so I wouldn't say don't do them if you get no problems.
I prefer to train each part of my back with hyperextension, rows, pullovers, chins
I understand some do Abbreviated type training so Deadlifts probably are important for them.
Each to his own..

All the people I trained with loved them, too. I started at a hardcore gym so these kinds of exercises were expected of me, with the elders pushing me too hard on things like that. They did it out of trying to help me but I always hated certain exercises. Pushing me too hard caused a permanent shoulder injury I have to this day. I curse that guy every morning when I wake up. :)
Powerclean and press, I could deal with as it felt like I was actually doing something inspiring. Deadlifts just made me dizzy and feeling awkward. Did you ever do "all round the world" which was a powerclean and press with then a behind the neck drop and squat; then a shoulder press and back to the front to drop it where you started? Not sure what it's actually called but that was a great cardio workout lift

"why can he go all the way down without rounding his back"
Same as i can & all Olympic lifters - its called flexibility
work on being flexible - simple ::)

AJ said the cure for lower back pain is to make it stronger
-
AJ said the cure for lower back pain is to make it stronger
wouldnt that depend on what the problem was?
Is AJ an orthapedic specialist or chiropractor?
-
Big fish small pond of peace... ;D
Exactly :D My training partner had won the deadlift event in one World Championships. He probably bitterly hated me but I made sure never to mention it or brag ;D

Listening to your body as you get older is more important than anything, I miss squatting but haven't done traditional or smith squats in over 5 years. Lost my right side to nerve impingement in my lates 30s, requiring disc replacement, coming back from that position to 80/90 Percent full recovery hardest thing done physically in my life and mentally.

You realize they were never 22" but 20 at most.

But he never said buy my machines
He just made a blanket statement ie strength your low back
He also said that barbells are a near Miracle invention

never realised how similar a build Joe had to Robbie Robinson...

You dont lose muscle, they just shrink
PS, you dont gain any either... ;)

That guy is a mutant to say the least! :o :o
his entire legs are the biggest ever in bb..
it's interesting how he trains his legs what I've seen just pump and fluff.
But maybe he does heavy sessions just not filmed it yet. All genetics though. Pretty sure he lacks the myostatin gene.

The crazy thing is the guy is in his early 20s, doesn't even have a lotta years of training under his belt. He makes seasoned Pros look like Mens physique competitors standing next to him, once this guy figures out how to get in shape it's game over, 20 Sandows in a row.

My entire right side, arm delt pec and lat, recovery took a decade or an inch per year from the compression point, still dont have the lower right lat back, but im 80-90% but if you were a competitive bodybuilder, your never competing again, like Preist Cutler, Ronnie once your nerves go its over. Lose size to help balance and train everything singularly forever. But disc injuries on replacement level is game over.
-
never realised how similar a build Joe had to Robbie Robinson...
He trained Robbie so it stands to reason they would look the same. ;D

:)
Stand them side by side. Would be a sad day for Philsulina :)

He has good calves. I think Dorian's were more impressive because of all the cuts and lines. His calves were insane from the side.

You're right. Recovery from a serious injury is no joke; and I didn't appreciate how fragile my body truly is, and the work needed to get even the capability to walk and enjoy nature, again. Compared to you, my recovery, physio and nerve situation is relatively minor, but it was a shock and wakeup call for sure.
