In two days (Aug 7) it will mark the 43rd anniversary of the release of the movie Heavy Metal. The movie is older than I am but was supposed to be cutting edge animation at the time.
(The song is still catchy though)

Heavy Metal was an animation film based on the magazines that catered to teenagers hoping to get a glimpse of boobs in cartoon form.

It’s sort of a cult thing. The magazine was basically a tits and ass thing about heavy metal music themes. The movie came out and influenced and inspired a ton of future movies like Blade Runner.

Loved the Heavy Metal-magazine (had plenty of them in the 80s and early 90s) and enjoyed the Movie they made that had great music.

God damn, loved it. Watched it hundreds of times. The sound track is always rotating through my playlist.
I used to have collections of the original magazines. The magazines had much better art than the movie but the movies adaptation was better in terms of dialogue. For example Den was humorous in the movie but very dark and dramatic in the magazine. But richard corbins art was so much better than anything in the movie.
Always wanted to see a true part 2 based on the 70's stories.
Supposedly Love, Death + Robots was supposed to be Heavy Metal Part 2. LD+H was also very good.
Heavy metal is a staple like Blues brothers, fast times at ridgemont, stripes, caddyshack etc...
Also Lee Haney posed to Heavy Metal by Don Felder for one of his Olympias.

Fuck yeah it is. One of the best series Ive seen in years. I read somewhere it was supposed to be Heavy Metal part 3.
I finally watched Heavy Metal 2000 the other day. It wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. Not great but not bad either.
