Title: Olympic sports that involve weight cutting?
Post by: galain on August 10, 2024, 07:45:40 AM
Watching the Olympics I've been wondering which disciplines have some sort of dedicated weight cutting/fat loss phase in their preparations.

The divers all look really lean - but I don't know if this is just for aesthetics or for performance.

The gymnasts all look lean. Do they actively lose fat before a comp or is it just a by product of their training?

Most of the judoka look to be very lean - I guess they cut weight like a wrestler would.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I do, but I would rather keep them to myself

A lot of the time the gi doesn't stay tied together. Even many of the bigger guys have visible abs.

Gymnasts don't cut what that's the regular everyday look

I believe boxers weigh in hours before fight time so they can maybe drop a few pounds to make weight but not many pounds

I’d say it’s just a byproduct of their dedication to their sport. Practicing for hours a day, especially gymnast and swimmers, has got to burn some major calories.

I’m guessing any activity that has weight classes: wrestling, weightlifting, etc?

Cyclists and long distance runners cut weight for efficiency.

Yep. Wrestlers, boxers and weightlifters are masters at cutting weight. All except super heavyweights who many times look like pigs.
