Title: If a muscle is severely under trained can it be trained more often
Post by: dj181 on August 11, 2024, 03:24:43 AM
Just started training quads again and they are severely under trained so I'm thinking I can train them more often

I train legs arms and delts every 3 days so I'm thinking I can train quads every other day

What y'all think?

The answer is simple... the Weider Priority Principle itīs not about how often dj ...itīs training the legs first when fresh, Bomb and Blitz your Quads

Weider Trainer of Champions  ;D

They say according to science quads recover the fastest out of all muscle groups and there are supposedly evolutionary reasons for this. Like it's important a human could move effectively with their legs for survival reasons. Triceps supposedly recover the slowest. I can imagine many will say this is total bs but it may be due to leg training being so exhausting on the whole body, especially if you choose exercises like squats, but supposedly quads recover their fresh strength the fastest.

I don't know much bout quad recovery but I know my delts and tris recovers fastest and I can train them every 2 of 3 days chest is every 3 or 4 days back takes the longest like every 6 or 7 days

Right now I train arms delts and pecs every 3 and I was trying to train back every 3 but it just kept getting weaker and doing worse so now I'll put it every 6 days

Mentzer says that as a muscle get bigger and stronger it needs more recovery time

Blakeley says that if you can train a muscle again before 7 days you weren't training it hard enough

When he was pressing over 6 bills he sometimes benched just once every 10 days

It's an interesting subject..

In mammalian skeletal muscles, multiple fiber types are generally intermingled within a single muscle group, and different muscle groups have varying proportions of fiber types1,2,12,18. For example, the human soleus leg muscle is predominantly type 1 fibers, whereas the triceps arm muscle is predominantly type 218. These proportions are plastic, however, and muscle fibers have the ability to remodel their phenotypes to help muscles adapt to different uses1–3. For example, endurance exercise training can induce a modestly increased proportion of type 1 fibers.

Training quads is a bitch.....a lot of times if you are really pushing as hard as you should be, you will get a severe case of DOMS,sometimes for days after training legs as opposed to any other bodypart.

I know people will say my legs sucked which they did, but I ALWAYS trained the living fuck out of them.

I also agree with Jeff.....when it comes to squatting, your lower back is a major weak link.....I was a pretty good squatter for a light small boned guy and they personally never worked well for me regardless of weight being heavy, high reps, low reps, all different kinds of intensity techniques thrown in.....the result in my case is that now I have three bulging discs and arthritis in my lower back and also in my neck.

Sorry to ramble.....my coffee just kicked in.   :)

Once a week works best for me.

But there's obviously some overlap for upper body with the other training sessions.

Nothing wrong with a " Bro Split " & if training legs hard why shouldnīt it work.
I did it myself & got good results but nowadays I like an upper/lower or simply a 3 day split. Less sets & exercises but for a guy in his 20s or 30s 5 days a week should pose no problems.

Volume dictates frequency the more sets the more time to recover

Leg extension trains mainly the rec fem put a quad compound in there also mate

But the thing is I will add 2-3 inches to each quad within 3-4 weeks

Why?

Coz they have already been that size but if I want to add another 1-2 inches after that then that will be much harder

New size ain't easy to come by

You realize you will need to add a lot of weight to add 2-3 inches to each leg

It seems to me as if no matter how hard some folks train their legs, they just never get huge or as big as they hope. My quads seemed large in proportion to the rest of my physique when I had a horse and went riding almost daily. They also grew when I commuted to and from work on a bicycle every day, but by that time the rest of my body was more muscular as well, so my quad size was less noticeable because they were more proportionate. Calves are another story. I am convinced the only way to have big calves is either because of genetics or implants. LOL!

My degenerative disc disease is mostly due to my advanced age and definitely not because I did loads of really heavy squats. Same for my arthritic knees with almost no meniscus padding them.

Mentzer was an idiot. Powerlifters train directly for strength gains and train much more often than Mentzer thought anyone could train and make gains.

In the 80's the Bulgarian weightlifters trained 6X or more a day which is probably 50X more than Mentzer advocated.

Train as often as you can - the only valid base refining your approach is observation of your body's reaction to a certain stimulus and "proper" adjustment. Everything else is just a very rough guide but nothing more.

Genes, natural food and ample stimuli.
