Title: Joe Bucci
Post by: oldtimer1 on August 11, 2024, 10:46:04 AM
I rarely start threads but I thought I will start one then take a three year break from starting another.  Joe Bucci was an amazing bodybuilder before he left for Hollywood. His arms were his best body part.  The reason why I bring this up is so many steroid champs look like hell after they stop competing.

I know I have been critical of steroid users and it stems from users saying look at what I accomplished without pointing out the obvious. Yes, I am I am in awe of steroid champs and what hard work, drugs and discipline have accomplished. I never for one minute forget what I am looking at though.

This brings me to Joe Bucci. I can do a laundry list of champs that stopped competing then went to hell physically. Joe Bucci is an exception.  The guy is lean and looks like an athlete. He is no spring chicken. He is a fall or winter chicken if anything.  Every current picture of him he looks in amazing shape.

I'm getting a Bay likely vibe here.

This is a bodybuilding site. No way to talk about bodybuilding without looking light in the loafers. Bodybuilding is barefoot oiled up men wearing thongs posing to music for cheering men after all.  ;D  The cheering men all lift then stare at the mirror hoping other men are impressed with their body. If they wanted women to be impressed with their body they would be playing soccer, running or swimming.

I recall someone saying he had an amazing built very early on, and also an exceptional athlete, so he definitely has freaky genetics, but he is also on  lifelong trt doses most probably.
Ahmet Enunlu is also in amazing shape in his mid 70's, i think staying lean year around and having a very solid foundation with great genetics is the key.
Some people say "Gee, I would love to be that kind of shape at his age"
That is the most stupid thing to say.
You werent remotely like him in any decade of your life, so you wont emulate his later years also  8)

The voice of reason.  Yes, if you were in shape for your 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's you have a good shot at looking in reasonable shape in your 60's.  I see guys in their 60's and 70's in 5K races running a good time but my thought immediately goes to he probably was running 17 minute 5k's in his 20's.  It isn't like they took up running at 70 then ran sub 8 minute miles in a 5K.

Arnold only had 19 1/2 ers

Sergio's were 20 1/4

Those measurements were taken by Arthur Jones. Arnold was not in top shape when he made the visit to Jones in Florida. Also Jones demanded a cold measurement. Sergio was only in Florida for about a week then returning to Chicago to train for the 1971 Universe against Pearl. Sergio could gain two inches after training.

Bucci had some of the best arms in bodybuilding. Joe Bucci was 5'10".

Arm measurements should only be taken cold

AJ claimed Zane only had 16 inch cold arms

I'd say closed to 17 although he claimed 18

If he really is 5'10 then that old dude is like 6'4

Zane weighed 183 at 5'9" for the 1980 Olympia. Even though I have read other weight for him there that weight was stated by him in 1980 which  now has revisionist history saying he was heavier.   Yes, his arm was probably close to 17" but not quite. No one measures an arm cold. Why would they? Even making a muscle more than one time will give a little extra size.

One of the first mags I read in the late 80s had a story where Bucci said he went into liver failure from steroids, and now he was clean yet even better!

I'm not sure why Bucci is "different" to you. Just another liar and lifelong drug user. Not that there's anything wrong with taking hormones.

he had the same build as Superman

Clark just slouched his shoulders (illusion) while Supes had his chest out proud.

So nobody would notice they had the same build.

Like I said before I'm in awe of what drugs, hard work and genetics can accomplish. I never forget that what I'm looking at is temporary.  The point of the thread is that so many users look like hell after they retire and he looks healthy and in shape.

So keep using your syringes, vials and pills. I will say that guy looks amazing if I see you in the gym but I won't forget for one second what you would look like clean.

What I'm saying is that drug use can be a semi-permanent fixture in a guy's life and some can work it well. You don't necessarily ever have to go clean. Like Bucci. Like Robby Robinson or whoever. Bucci is addicted to PEDs, but so what?

I went to to school from first grade all the way to Plymouth-Whitemarsh high school with Joe Bucci,  and he was a beast from around 6th grade on, and no it wasn't juice because a typical 12 year old kid had never heard of steroids in 1970. He was ridiculously built by even the 8th grade. Hard work and genetics built the framework of his physique.  I'm 5-10 and he was same height as me.  More importantly though, he was always a pleasant and easy going guy, he went out of his way to be a gentleman, and was cool with everybody.  I haven't seen him in decades but he was the real deal back in the day

Hi Joe. ;D In all seriousness, Bucci had great arms and I loved his training program published in the mags. If I remember right it was arms every other day with one bodypart every day in between. His Hollywood movies were some of the worst ever put to film. He made the Barbarian Brothers look like Oscar nominees.

I knew Joe when he was 15 and clean, nice guy, he was well built, lean, but no "beast"...Lol....Then he blew up and got about 18 inch arms, I was naive because he denied steroid usage....but everybody lied about it back then.

Oldgolds regarding Joe as a 15 year old he was literally as good as it got in the early 70's.  I do realize this is just  internet chatter without pics to back it up, but I checked his instagram page and there's a shot of him doing a single bicep shot in the high school parking lot, he would have been 16 in that pic (1974-5)  I believe his instagram name is Joseph Michael Bucci, maybe all one word

Great posts Virgil. Given your access to Joe in high school, did you ever have PE with him?  If so, during the communal showers during that era of high school I'm sure you would have had every opportunity to catch a glimpse of what Joe was packing.  Shoot us straight sport.  Did Joe have a big cock or what?
