Yes interesting. I guess if you are a competitor from Europe, Asia, Middle East you figure US is the big time and you don’t figure you may be noticed as much if you go compete in Brazil. But Brazil is a HUGE nation (215 million) with tons of bodybuilders. And the IFBB/NPC has been especially successful at registering and promoting that pool of bodybuilders.

Agree on all counts.
Was thinking to see at least some South Americans .

There’s still somewhat of a Spanish vs. Portuguese thing going on maybe. And those other nations may be more tied in with the “other” IFBB.

Prize money is in local currency, converting to dollar, not worth it, for Americans and Europeans. and 212 pro shows prize money is very low.

Brazil not the safest place outside of tourist resorts.

So is New York.

New York City. Brazil is a dangerous country. Maybe that keeps competitors away.

Families maybe don’t want to go there, except maybe to the top tourist destinations like Rio or Buzios. Even Rio can be dicey.

Those gore leak sites always have Brazil favela videos. Also, loads of Brazilian police stuff. They don't take no shit. Saw one where a cop dragged a robber round the back of a car away from the camera to execute him right there. No judge, no jury. Wild.

I imagine single guys probably make up the vast majority of tourists in Rio. Those bikini beach babes there. :P

What I am saying is you mostly would not get a rental car and go driving through the Brazilian countryside like you would in US or Europe. Contest was in Belo Horizonte, no idea of the safety factor there. Having been in Rio, the one thing I will say is that it is probably the most beautiful city in the world (plus the women). But dicey. Lots of rich and semi-rich people live there but they often live in compounds behind cement walls with a security guard stationed in front.

The top 10% live the good life and everyone else lives in squalor.
