It's pretty weak to blame something you know is not true, and I think he knew exactly what he had and that it was never connected to any PED use. Coulf have been a way to deflect any homo rumors. But who knows, maybe he was sincere?

One of the rumors was that he went for an NFL health screening (this was during the comeback period), and the cancer was caught there, and in order to get ahead of it, they quickly offered the steroid theory. The main guy treating Lyle never jumped aboard that, he just stated it was cancer, with no theory.

Well my brother, to be honest "rabbit" is nearly as descriptive as "rabid". The friend I spoke of is a trusted friend. He trained at the same gym. In contrast, he never spoke either good or bad about Mentzer.
