Title: Just one machine?
Post by: BayGBM on September 07, 2024, 05:49:17 AM
Every decade or so a vendor comes out with an all-in-one overpriced machine and it seems to catch some people’s imagination. Remember Soloflex?  I’m not sure what they call this… but here comes another one.  9 machines in one.  :-\

The machine that Bay posted looks like an incomplete version of a GHR machine......looks stripped down and cheap, but probably costs a small fortune.

I`d rather have one of the old school Universal Machines.

The Universal - Where the bench becomes a leg press, squat device, shoulder press, shrug machine, etc.  lol

I remember when gyms (usually called athletic clubs) had those.  Better than nothing  ;D

They weren`t great but you had a pulldown/triceps pressdowns station, dipping bars,a shitty leg  press/seated calf press station,a flat bench, seated row and cable curl combo station,slant/situp board, and possibly more that my old ass can`t recall..........it was better than nothing.

Yup - Chromed out, too  ;D  The first gym I belonged to had one of those.

The bench press had hand grips (like a bicycle) Memories......

Long review, it looks really decent on some things, mainly lower back and ab work. It also looks very middle of the road on other stuff.

I remember when this one first came on the scene about 20 years ago.  I have literally never seen it anywhere nor seen a model using it in advertisements.  Strange.  Somehow I don't want to know what it costs.  ::)

Around $2K on ebay.  New is around $6K.

IIRC, $10K new when they first came out back in the day.

A barbell or dumbbells are the best machine.

Before I bought my home I did the math: gym membership vs. garage gym.

I bought a squat rack with chin and dip attachments, Oly bar and plates, dumbbells, and dumbbell rack.  A few years ago I added a kettlebell for kinetic movements.

After 21 years, I’ve saved thousands on gym membership.

I actually have one of those old universal machines.  I had two but when I moved to this house I sold the other one.  It has a bench ( but I made a small incline bench too for it) seated leg press. adjustable ab board. diping bars pull up attachment. hanging leg raise attachment. shoulder press ( seated or standing) leg ext/curl. Arm curl/low row. And a pulldown station.  I love it. I also have a nautilus pullover. a smith machine  a real leg press/hacksquat a power rack lateral raise, rear lateral raise, pec dec, tricep machine standing and seated calf machines ,lat pulldown with low row, a power rack, tbar row,  set of hex dumbells from 5 up to 100 lbs and a set of pro style from 10lbs up to 120 lbs plus tons of olympic weights and bars etc. But honestly I love the universal machine the best, Im 60 and its just so much easier pulling a pin than having to move weights etc.  Most of my equipment I have is nautilus

I will post pictures soon. I have a barn I have my hardcore weight stuff in. Then in my basement I have the universal machine and a few other things like a pec dec hack squat lateral raise hex dumbells and power rack and seated calf.  The cost was really very minimal  . I would buy stuff online on craigslitst etc and get good prices. Plus people would give me shitty home stuff and I would sell that to help pay for the good stuff. Sometimes someone would give me stuff because it was their ex husbands and he left and she didn't want it no more. lol But mostly i would just buy stuff and sell what I didn't want and that kept the costs down. I bought one of the universal 10 station machines I had from the fire dept. 150.00 bucks!!

Definitely a buyer's market for used equipment. Most people buy equipment, use it once or twice and then use it as a coat rack until they sell it a few years later.

That was before Covid prices have never come back to precovid levels for used home gym equipment
