Title: Chrysler Headquarters Closing - All Design Engineering Moving To Mexico
Post by: Palumboism on September 08, 2024, 08:15:06 AM
This is based on a letter from a current Stellantis exec.

The previous Chrysler headquarter is being closed and sold.  ALL design engineering is moving to Mexico.

Toledo Jeep plant that makes wrangler and Gladiator closing and production moving to Mexico.

Ram 1500 and Wagoneer production also moving to Mexico.

If you didn't like Dodge before You'll like your Mexican designed and manufactured Dodge even less.

This company and it's brands are being destroyed.  First Mercedes, then Fiat, and now Peugeot.  This company has been run into the ground.

It’s almost shocking Chrysler has survived this long. It’s been poorly managed for years, moving to Mexico won’t fix anything.

Don't forget, Chrysler didn't survive.  It went bankrupt in 2008 along with GM.  The federal government "restructured" both Chrysler and GM to create the current companies.  Very little is said about what happened during this process for good reason. Tax payers payed more than the should have to create the two new companies.  I can think of hundreds of ways they could have restructured things better.

Aside from Body on frame trucks and SUV's, the big three auto companies are completely noncompetitive with foreign companies.  Which is exactly why all three stopped making cars.

Ford is 50% owned by China.
Volvo is owned by China.
GM and the spin offs like Chevy is 50% owned by China as in GM & Jinbei,
Chrysler and all the spins offs are owned by a conglomerate based in the Netherlands mainly French and Italian main owners.
Tesla is American owned by you know who.
Nissan is 45% French owned

The car industry's no 1 priority is lowering costs. That's exactl why so many of them relocate to Mexico. The Audi Q5 that is sold in Germany comes from Mexico. So does the Tacoma for the US market.
In Europe many companies have been relocating to Eastern Europe, lower wages, cheaper energy, and many more will follow.

The Chinese car builders are getting more impressive very quickly now:

Most buyers / leasers don't care where their car or truck comes from. They want the best price, warranty etc.

When it comes to manufacturing no one can beat China. Highest quality, work ethic, highest productivity and lowest cost. But to get around American tariffs Chinese car builders will have to open more new factories in Mexico.

Chrysler has been making vehicles in Mexico for a long time.

Same with John Deere and many other manufacturing companies.

Bosch, Borg Warner, etc.

Cheap labor and they get crazy tax breaks.

Why pay someone a union $40 per hour when you can pay less than $3?

...Because it's bad for your society to do otherwise?...

Where was the smartphone, laptop or desktop built that you used to type that comment? Precisely. Look at Western cars made in China:

If Chinese products were mainly cheap the competition could survive, but much lower price and high quality is a big problem for products made elsewhere.

Almost everything cheap we buy comes from China and it's almost all crap.
