Title: Bodybuilder who's mentality / mindset you most admire
Post by: kiwiol on May 03, 2006, 08:57:39 AM
For me it's Dorian Yates hands down. He was incredibly focused, was humble to a fault, didn't talk a lot of shit and DID what others kept talking about - coming in better shape consistently and besting others. I loved how he had a blue coller approach to training and focused on improving upon his previous showings (rather than on others). I know this sounds borderline gay (at least in Getbig) :-[, but the one word I associate with Dorian more than any other bodybuilder out there is Heroic. What he overcame in terms of injuries esp. that close to the 1994, and more so, the 1997 Mr O was incredible.

So, whose mentality / mindset do you guys admire? I am sure the answers are going to vary from Lee Haney (for being religious etc) to Ronnie (LOL Hulkster) to Craig Titus ::). Once again, I am talking about the mental attitude NOT the physique. And for those of you who are going to put down bodybuilders calling them druggies etc, F*CK OFF >:(

I will do my best and using techniques from the champions such as brutal training and mental intensity/confidence. Its an unbeatable format. :)

I agree it's Dorian.  To compete with those major injuries was something.  His last, a tricep rupture was to much to come back from.  He once said something like this.  I care more about how hard I train than how I look.  If I train hard, how I look will take care of it self.

How many top stars who weigh over 250lbs.  have you seen doing set after set with weights a 185lb. guy could use that just started lifting 5 months ago.  Guys like Dorian and Coleman push some serious iron.  Please don't post pictures of guys posing with a huge weight for a magazine shoot.  If they tried a full rep with the weight their arms would break off before the off camera spotters could grab the weight.

Dorian and Ronnie are the guys that inspired me most to finally start training diligently and lose more than 80 pounds of fat.

Ronnie - esp. after 2003 when he made a superman like comeback and gathered the admiration of the world.

He knows how to train, knows that a sense of humour is very important.

And he knows that age is only a number.

he is the man.
