That is amazing considering he was dying and on dialysis 25 years ago

Don “Defying Human Anatomy” Long
Disgusting as it sounds, I think that is actually one of those crazy arm varicose vein clumps from years of dialysis

Don “Defying Human Anatomy” Long
A co-worker has those lumps in his arm veins. They are from the dialysis catheter.
-
Damn. Looks great otherwise
-
Never thought he was going to beat both Ronnie and Flex in the long run.
WooooSHHHHHHHHHHHH Oh tani
-
Totally worth it.
Dialysis is just a minor speed bump on the path to bodybuilding fame.

Didn't he discover he was born with only one kidney, already later in his career?
If only he had stayed doing stripping.

Who is the getbigger trying to troll Don into an even-earlier grave?
-
Glad he is doing well with dialysis. The average life expectancy for people that start it is 5 to 10 years. Can you imagine going to get dialysis 3 times a week to sit there for hours? They often are very weak when leaving treatment.
-
Is he back on dialysis? Last time I heard is his transplant is still going strong. Where did you get this information
-
Talk about a bit player in bodybuilding history.
Ninety-nine percent of pros are this guy.
-
At least he is out of jail.

it's called a AV Fistula. they stitch together a vein and an artery. artery is higher pressure so it stretches the vein & makes it bigger/thicker enough to withstand 2 big 15/16ga needles 3-7days a week. you've gotta get the Fistula done like 6months prior to starting dialysis so it has time to heal and get all thick, looking like a varicose vein.
-
He is almost 58 years old.
-
Yes already stated it was his fistula.

Serious question,,, which bodybuilding drugs are most linked to all the kidney damage cases?

The ones that cause high blood pressure.

The ones that cause high blood pressure.
Makes sense. Well kind of hard to avoid for a pro bodybuilders with the the dosages they have to use to be competetive.

It's partly due to BP but not only that, steroids themselves have deleterious effects on the kidneys. Impossible to say how much the tox part accounts for with bb kidney problems.
Most bb use BP medications now, at least those who are online. Gurus advocate it from the start of juicing. Saw some heavyweight say there's never an excuse to be over 120/80 even if you are a heavyweight. This is a more severe tolerance than even most doctors.

The super-high protein diets can be hard on kidneys too, although mostly for kidneys that are already damaged.

Not true. This has been debunked a 1000 times. Healthy kidneys can handle more then you'll ever be able to eat. Diuretics on the other hand don't help

Whenever i tried very high protein (for my frame) i got smelly foamy urine. That can't be healthy in the long run. Don Long himself stated that he had to cut on protein for a total of 100 grams daily, relying his diet on mostly white rice.

20nm brain, did you miss the part where I said "mostly for kidneys that are already damaged" ? High protein diets are detrimental for renal function in people with or at risk for kidney disease, there are decades of science on this. "Or at risk for..." would include diabetes, high body weight, pounding down diuretics, etc.

Kinda surprised he is still around. I'm sure he and his wife get busted for dealing too. Gotta give him credit for keeping his life together.
