Title: My gym for the next two weeks
Post by: LurkerNoMore on January 04, 2025, 11:54:19 AM
Transatlantic Food and Drink cruise.  I don’t think any ASC prep is going to happen here.  They do have two smith machines - one angled one vertical - for whichever you prefer.  (Straight vertical here).

I have gigged over 30 cruises before but not any since 2018.  Things have changed.  One of the best things is you no longer have to go to the muster stations with your life jackets for the mandatory drill any more.  Just watch a video they send you in your email and click ok.

Someone has to hand out condoms at the liberal sausage fest on water.

Why did you ask for flavored ones?

So you wouldn't complain about the rubber taste like last time.

Begrudgingly I give you +1 point for that one.  Though I suspect someone wrote that for you.

Angled Smith Machine?  Please show

You know the one that has a slight angle movement track.  Not directly up and down.

Don't get sea sick while lifting. Puking on the equipment will make the Captain uptight.

Not bad so far.  The food has been outstanding.  Which is to be expected at a food and drink specialty.

Medium ship. About 600. Some really awesome guest chefs and chain reps (Ruth Chris, etc).  Gym is always empty.   People either eating or drinking or sleeping it off.  Bunch of old people. I think I am the youngest non crew member on here.  And probably the only sober one as well.

It wasnt that bad. First day post op felt like i did 4 hours of crunches, second day the same. Third day occasional mild ache. The doc did it robotically, that in itself is kinda trippy but check out some youtube vids on it.
What sucks is the layoff from any strenuous activity. 2 weeks of nothing but walking. Then gradually do more, but at this point the gym is 5.5 weeks away.

 Was the hernia itself bad?

I had a double inguinal hernia when I was in my early 20s. Had both repaired. The hardest thing was pooping. Was petrified about pushing, thought I was going to ruin the repair. Pain was mild to moderate the first few days. I felt pretty good after the first week. But didn’t go back to lifting for a while.

Who knows. My doctor said probably from deadlifting and/or squatting but there is no possible way to know exactly what caused it. I was in the shower and noticed a little lump--went to doctor and said I had hernia on both sides but the other side was not pushing through but there was a tear. Had them fixed when I was early 20's and been fine since then.

There was no pain prior to noticing the lump?

Zero pain. I could have had it for months and not known. Or maybe it was a new tear. Don’t know. But no pain.
