I always thought this guy had a great physique...
-
-
Midget short, XL head, completely out of proportion. Never won anything. Overrated

Dwarfism makes it very difficult to get proportions right. And it looks plain ridiculous next to normal height people

He got a Pro card, so he must have won something. His aesthetics and proportions are great.

Great classic physique. He was probably the only man that made Lee Labrada look like a mass monster when standing next to him.

In my opinion he was up there with Zane. He knew what worked for him & didn´t just do the usual exercises but listened to people like Larry scott.

99.9% of it is genes and the training is way distant in importance. Especially the old school guys always made it sound like the physique they had was the exact one they strove for. It's like saying you decided to be a certain height. Columbu saying his high incline presses gave him pecs with a split. It's silly.

lee labrada also destroying the mass monsters in the bikini briefs area too ;D he’s no mark dugdale though ;D
-
Benfatto was awesome. The one improvement that I would’ve liked to have seen.... more size in the calves.
-
His looked phenomenal, even in 05 for his comeback

X 2.
Always felt like that about his physique. He had good body parts and was always in great condition. But his short-wide torso and large head threw off his proportions.

Especially for over 60.

What...you mean I can't train that biceps peak :D
Of course I know it's Genetics but some exercises work better for me than others

I also think he tried his damndest to try to be a mass monster, to grow as much as possible at least. During his comeback he was way bigger, waist too. Before the "sports technology" wasn't there.

the wide waist comes with age, it happens to everyone

Unfortunately I'm finding this out.

I remember back in the day people did DB side bends or Broomstick twists for obliques then it was said don't train obliques.
Depending if you're a bodybuilder or strength athlete obliques might be important

My obligues push out something awful. Training them might actually reduce my waist, have to start doing the oblique machines in the gym...

Though short torso/long legs combo is always preferable to the opposite IMO from an aesthetics standpoint and judges seem to agree.

At one time I did 3 sets of 200 Broomstick twists..so 600 reps ;D my waist was tight & small. I also did hanging knee raises & crunches.
Maybe as a warm up do a couple of sets before training say 2x100.

Maybe they got smaller and tighter because you were wildly overtraining them? :D
I only did very heavy abs the last 2 decades for hobby "powerlifting." When I was a kid I used to do a ton of high rep abs before school, enthusiasm was high :D My buddy used to do these crunches with a certain kind of 450lbs barbell on his chest. It was a bit stupid but he was strong as fuck :D
Looking upthread, Benfatto in the leotard, fuck his arms looked insane there! :o

yes & i was very strictly dieting most of the time plus Judo which involves a lot of twisting of the torso...

I used to train them directly then after reading stuff like that I stopped realizing that just like any other muscle they would grow creating a wider waist.
I always told my clients who were overweight to never do weighted side bends or any direct oblique training.......they always seemed to want to do this exercise under the misconception that their waistlines would shrink.
I also believe that they get enough indirect work while doing Presses, squats, abs and order stuff.
My abs were always lean and tight and I was pretty strong for a smaller guy.
Obliques.........we don`t train no stinking obliques! LOL ;D

i always thought this also, but stopped anyway......i figured why waste the energy when my abs looked great anyway due to my small structure and fast metabolism when I was younger.

That`s all you need Donny.....but if I were you I would mix it up by adding in other things at times as the abs adapt very quickly to an exercise therefore requiring you to do tons of sets and reps to make them burn.
What I later did in my training that worked great was Tri-Sets and/or Giant-Sets for abs thereby cutting down on reps and really creating intensity.
Just my thoughts,do what works for you obviously.
If it ain`t broke, don`t "fix" it.

yes.. i´ve never really bothered with weighted stuff but supersts of say leg raises & crunches work well so i get you.
it´s like you said on another post the abs are worked with other exercises.
a mate of mine always did weighted sit ups & cable crunches & had thick abs but they just looked extended when he was in a T-shirt.

I hardly ever used weight on abs as the Tri-Sets worked great.
I did however use weight on kneeling rope crunches when I did them.
My abs were thick and etched when I was cut up unlike Hankys abs which look thin, shallow, and underdeveloped even though he is lean due to his laziness.
I doubt that he even does any ab work,or does a few obligatory sets as an afterthought.

Yes I saw your pictures Wes ..you had a great waist.
We did these in the Army..works everything
-
I`ve done those as well......in fact I probably tried every ab exercise in the book before deciding which ones worked best for me......which is what we all should do for every bodypart.
We better stop with the "training talk" as people might get confused and think this board is about bodybuilding and weight training! LOL ;D
