I'll have to beg them but why not.
What I really want to do is carry a 100lb mortar base plate up and down mountains.

If they say they are sending you to a war zone just roll a huge doobie, you will only get a less than honourable discharge.

This is true.

any real evidence to prove that?
The video implies that strength trained armed forces are more difficult to kill than non-strength trained armed forces soldiers.
Is this accurate? In all branches, or just certain ones?
I'd imagine, with all the data, that there's at least some type of meta regression to prove this statement out one way or the other.
Qualitatively, I want to think it's true. But in combat, so many things are critical to survival. Is strength training really one of them? Or does strength training pale in comparison to other factors:
Phyisical:
Joint integrity
Reaction time
Heart rate
Vo2Max
endurance
alactic ability
Emotional:
Resilience
lack of empathy (or reverse)
tinkering (do you enjoy taking things apart)
Mental:
Intelligence
Analytical prowess
competitiveness
Sociological:
Relational (can you join with others)
subservience (can you follow orders)

Gonna throw this out there and say it all matters and itโs all trained.

The British military has in recent years introduced weight training but more like a cross fit protocol.
Big muscles are not needed on an 8 mile run carrying 30+ kilos such as the famous Yomp the Royal Marines did in the Falklands. They had to march miles carrying everything.
In my experience the bigger guys struggled badly on runs & house to house type training.
Not saying all are like this or that a good deadlift might not have carry over but soldiering is a young lean man's job. Running was the most important factor for us.
Running & circuits with bodyweight
Fartlek ( speed play) type training too.
It's all changed since my time ....not sure if having transsexuals is the way to go nowadays ???

Donโt confuse strength training with bodybuilding training. I still train a few people and the quite a few that come through are those getting ready for the military (Marines and Army) and LE. I train them the same way I would train almost any athlete with the same training and conditioning templates.

Well let's hope they do enough running too.

Personally I never needed a personal trainer to get me fit to pass entrance tests.
Back then people were fitter & leaner, I used to deliver milk before school running around carrying baskets & crates of milk bottles door to door at 5am.
Before I went to London for my basic training I just went running up a nearby park & from instinct did hill work & Cross Country type stuff.
Upper body strength was decent & I actually did chins & dips at the Park.
Very simple basic stuff because I really didn't understand weight training.
