I was fortunate enough to live in downtown San Diego in the late 90's.  I worked out for a while at a decent older gym downtown, I don't remember the name of it but you had to climb a flight of stairs to get to it.  Then I switched to the old YMCA on Broadway out of convenience (within a couple of blocks from where I was living and working).  Fond memories, definitely a high point in my life.
