“ Last week, President Donald Trump issued an executive order barring illegal immigrants from accessing welfare benefits. His action opens the door to a thorough reevaluation of how the federal government treats states that give generous benefits to unlawful residents.
In particular, the Department of Health and Human Services should stop approving Medicaid waivers for states that provide free health insurance for illegal aliens. Following President Trump’s order, Health & Human Services secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. should sunset key Medicaid waivers to states, such as New York and California, that cover illegal migrants.
To achieve President Trump’s goal, Kennedy would rely on an often-overlooked policy mechanism: waivers issued under Section 1115 of the Social Security Act. These waivers grant states special permission to expand or restrict Medicaid eligibility beyond standard federal requirements. That lets states experiment with ways to reduce costs or improve care, like imposing work requirements on welfare recipients.
States have also used Section 1115 waivers to bypass federal eligibility guidelines—including those that prohibit coverage of illegal immigrants. Fourteen states now offer Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program benefits to at least some people living in the United States illegally, and 12 of those states have an approved Medicaid waiver. Five states with waivers cover illegal immigrants of all ages and categories.”

What is the problem with this. Nothing. Why were we paying for illegals anyways.
-
No federal funding for states who don't fall into line and ignore the courts until you can change the law, it worked for the democrats just do the same. Then remove the judges, basically Biden type Policy delivery in retaliation but on steroids. Democrats opened the door on a lot of this anti democratic behaviour its now time to give them some of their own medicine or better still drown them in it.

BREAKING: MAGA Speaker Mike Johnson goes full Alex Jones and claims that the droves of angry voters who have been swarming town halls to oppose Republican cuts to Medicaid and Social Security are "paid protestors."
And it gets so much worse...
"The videos you saw of the town halls were for paid protesters in many of those places. These are Democrats who went to the events early and filled up the seats. If the videos had panned out—" Johnson told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
Collins pushed back, asserting that Johnson couldn't possible "argue they were all paid protesters, though" because "one Republican acknowledged they were his constituents."
"Uh, one Republican acknowledged they were constituents. That’s fantastic," replied Johnson. "Ok, but they had Democrats come and fill the seats early, all right?"
"This is an old playbook that they pulled out and ran, and it made it look like that what is happening in Washington is unpopular. But I’m gonna tell you, Kaitlan, the American people are behind what’s happening," he added.
The truth, of course, is that these were not paid protestors. Americans are understandably concerned about Trump and Elon Musk slashing and burning their way through crucial programs that they rely on to live.
Americans need Medicaid and Social Security to survive. Government employees need their jobs to feed their families. The gall it takes for Republicans to destroy these people's lives and them label them "paid protestors" is staggering.
The only people who stand "behind" what's happening right now are the billionaires who will benefit from the massive tax cuts that DOGE is paving the way for and MAGA cultists who will support literally anything that Donald Trump does.
The budget resolution passed by Republicans on Tuesday calls for $880 billion in cuts to spending overseen by the House Energy and Commerce Committee — and the majority of the spending that the committee oversees goes towards Medicaid and Medicare.
In other words, if Republicans want to come even close to that $880 billion reduction they're going to have to completely gut healthcare for millions of Americans. Medicaid alone provides coverage for 1 in 5 Americans.
If they proceed with this plan, the suffering and destruction inflicted will be incalculable — and Republicans will pay dearly for it at the ballot box.
AND SOON FOR EVERYBODY.

Which is why they are going bankrupt.

Which is why they are going bankrupt.
And they don't spend a fraction of what the US spends on defense, counting on the US to bail them out if/when threatened by enemies.
That's why many of those countries are now scared the US might not do that while Trump is in office, and they're now cutting back on other expenses so they can boost their own defense budget.

Fuck that stupid nonsense giving illegals anything except
A big boot up the Backside back to where they came from.
Always prioritize your own country & people 1st.

BTW, ending Medicaid for illegals doesn't end their ability to get medical services, i.e. the ER and urgent care facilities.
Hospitals cannot turn away individuals, regardless of their immigration status, from the emergency room for treatment of emergency medical conditions. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) mandates that all hospitals participating in Medicare must provide emergency medical care to anyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay or immigration status.
Hospitals cover the cost of emergency room (ER) services for uninsured or unable-to-pay patients through a combination of federal regulations, government programs, and hospital-specific financial aid.
Ending Medicaid for illegals will have no negative effect on them. Hospitals still recover the cost of those services. Since urgent care facilities can turn away folks who have no ability to pay for services, ER rooms will be even more crowded than they are currently. -Better hope you never have a medical emergency.

This is where I separate from the usual left. IF...IF you are in this country illegally. I believe zero taxpayers dollars should be spent on you. This is not unlike Mexico, where if you are an American citizen in Mexico zero dollars are spent on you. If you show up at an emergency room, and you are an illegal. That is something you had the ability to think about before the emergency.

Then those rules have to be changed also & have security at hospitals
to stop any illegals entering - Problem solved.

Regardless of your beliefs, besides being against the law, the fact is hospital ERs do not and will not turn anyone in need of medical care away. Surely, you’ve heard of the Hippocratic oath. "The Hippocratic Oath's core principle of prioritizing patient well-being applies equally to all individuals, regardless of their immigration status. This means physicians are obligated to provide care based on medical need, not factors like citizenship or legal status."

Best you ask yourself what is it with you?
I cannot take credit for making the law, but I believe in abiding by it. FACT: By law, hospital ERs do not have the option of turning folks away regardless ability to pay or if they are illegal immigrants.
FYI, In Great Britain, hospitals must provide emergency treatment to anyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay or immigration status. "Take care of business at home before you take care of it elsewhere."

Who pays for it? An American visiting another country is typically doing so on vacation and they have money. An illegal has nothing coming here so they have no money to pay. I agree it sucks to fork out the money for them, which is why they shouldn’t be here in the first place.

The hospital eats the cost even if Medicaid doesn't reimburse. That cost gets shifted to paying patients. Eventually they end up shutting down ERs and hospitals in poorer areas. Ending Medicaid for illegals may or may not make a big difference to the average person. For someone who doesn't use the healthcare system it might lower their tax burden. The overall cost to someone who does legitimately use the healthcare system might end up being higher as a result. When administrators and politicians make healthcare decisions it doesn't always follow to a logical conclusion.
I don't know the right answer and I'm not saying your POV is wrong. I'm just saying cutting Medicaid for illegals might not lower all of our costs even though it seems like it should at a first glance.
-
Does anyone have a reasonable argument against this?
ERs, I get. They shouldn't turn anyone away. However, continued care, treatment, prescriptions etc, for illegals shouldn't be paid by taxpayers

Having spent time in Mexico and hold a temporary residency card, I can say that a vast majority of medical situations involve expats. The difference I've seen between the US and Mexico is most of us can afford to pay out of pocket in Mexico. For example, I had an ear infection and a plane ride coming in a few days. Went to the local pharmacy that was attached to a pharmacy. For under $25 dollars I got the exam and the antibiotics. Here, my co pay is $30

But... ER's are being abused by people for that very reason. That's why if you go to an ER, where my insurance punishes me with a $100 co pay, because they want me to go to an Urgent care due to cost, you'll see an avalanche of people with no insurance there for common ailments

How many folks do you suppose never need to use the healthcare system at some point in their lives? What connection is there between taxes and folks using the healthcare system?

Why would anyone who can pay or has health insurance choose to go to the ER for non-emergency care if they could go to an Urgent Care facility instead, assuming they need medical care during Urgent Care's hours of business. Medicare Advantage, waves ER copays when folks are admitted to the hospital, as is usually the case with a serious injury or health emergency.

I am amazed by how cheap healthcare is in other countries. We go to SXM a lot and I’ve had two issues there, one with one of my kids and one with me, and it didn’t cost much. Paid cash for ear infection meds and evaluation for one of my kids cost less than $90. I fucked up my toe, saw a doc and got treated, no meds and it was like $60 cash. Crazy what our health care costs are here, although I think we have awesome healthcare in the states.

I think there needs to be some standard set as to what constitutes an emergency. Would lighten the load of ERs if everyone with the sniffles wasn't sitting in the lobby.

Hospital staff can determine what is or is not an emergency and most often they do this when the person checks-in. People who come to the ER with the sniffles may end up sitting in the waiting room forever... or at least until they give up and leave. If you have symptoms of heart failure or the risk of a stroke, you will likely be seen by a doctor pronto.
One time during a regular doctor’s visit, probably my annual wellness check, my GP detected I was having an episode of AFib. He sent me to the nearest ER. Plus, he called them to inform them I would be coming in. When I got there, I was immediately taken back into an exam room and hooked up to all kinds of equipment. They kept me there for a couple of hours to make sure I was stabilized before they discharged me.
