In his trust, Gene Hackman left $80M to his late wife, Betsy Arakawa. It isn't clear if he named his three adult children in his trust (will). Some reports suggest he left nothing to them. Weird. This is further complicated because Arakawa's death preceded Hackman's.

The state of California will probably get it.

I hope so too.

Many rich people fall out with their kids and leave them nothing. When it comes to celebs, it often spills out in the press. One of my fav actors, Jerry Orbach, had his relatives fighting over his will. It's embarrassing. If you can't make your own life financially comfortable yourself, and need to rely on the death of your parents: you've got the wrong priorities. If my brother gets 100%, I could hardly care less. There's only so much money you need.
Jerry Lewis did the same with his kids. Joan Crawford, too.

Didn't he live in New Mexico? If so, that would be half the state's GDP.
-
Here there are laws against making your children totally will-less, same in the US?

Gavin Newsom would love to spend it wisely and buy new orthopedic mattresses and PlayStations for every locked up and suffering murderer and rapist.

He moved to Santa Fe NM a long time ago, lived there since at least 1990:

Fuck off, you deviant old pervert.
When you die your family of feral leeches won’t inherit anything because you were a broke, pedo janitor who hung around local public schools to try to get into little boy’s pants.
And now that your wife has died from the shame of your dick smoking exploits, you have 3 generations of illegitimate morons living with you.

x2. If your kids disappoint you or prove to be losers why leave them your money?

If you’re going to cut your kids out of your will at least leave the money to some kind of legitimate charity.
The Death Tax should also be illegal.

Wow. I didn't know about that. Just did a lookup and a couple of them committed suicide, too. Seems most of them had problems with alcohol. Surface wise it says he was too strict. Something tells me there's way more to it if all his kids end up on alcohol and depression. 7 kids.... the guy sure didn't like pulling out.

Death tax is the final fk you from the state to say they owned your ass even in death. It's a vindictive and disgusting tax, imo.

Yes, it should because it is nothing but government theft.

Good maybe they will get it instead of his kids.

That’s a stupid law. Why should you be forced to pass down wealth that you earned? My father wanted us to make our own way. He left a lot to my children- and I wil for my grandchildren - but no one should be mandated by law

You’d rather the state get everything you spent your life working for, because that’s the law here if you don’t designate your assets.

Not what he’s saying. He’s saying you have to include your children in your will. But let’s say you want to give it to a charity or friend? Why should your kids get your assets if you want it to go elsewhere?

? I didn’t say anything has to go to your children. I was commenting about laws. You can give your money to who or whatever you want and you have to have a designated recipient, unless you’re married, to receive what is yours unless you want the state to take control of the distribution of your assets. .
There are many institutions and people that have proven they can’t effectively handle money. But I don’t think government will be responsible with most people assets.
