Thank you sir.........looks way too unhealthy. :(
In 22 days he`d look like a corpse IMO.

Probably unhealthy levels of OCD but it is impressive in a way. Would be the ideal stage to hit the PEDs and eat.

This is the reality of natural bodybuilding.
When dieting to extremely low body fat levels, there will be a lot of muscle loss.
-
I might be wrong, but let's say he was put in the Fight Club scene instead of Brad Pitt, might look really jacked? I mean people thought Brad was jacked there. Everyone thought Bruce Lee was jacked.

Exactly. I mean this guy might even be a success story as far as that goes, someone thought enough of him to feature him.
Yes he has wasted away to nothing but like I said I think that requires some OCD mentality and a long process, I certainly couldn't do it. So that's why it's impressive to me in a way, most enhanced bodybuilders are not psycho enough to diet to that level. Judging by the glutes :D
-
He’s doing it right, conditioning for a natural is very impressive. When he carb loads for a few days before he steps on stage he will look very different than the pics you see of him now. I’d like to see the contest pics to see how much he was able to fill out while still maintaining the level of conditioning he currently holds.

9 out of 10 fuck up carbs and water for their first show. Based on that he probably will look spilled over or smooth and flat (like Hanky). Wish him luck.
-
I admire those who can attain a shredded physique natural.....
the problem is the unhealthy look specially the face,
Same goes for youtuber The Cavalier dude (sp?) lean starving 24/7 look specially the face..
worthy ?

there is no muscle "loss" he has the same fibres regardless, the difference is nitrogen retention and fullness with drugs
Just look at the delts and traps of a drug user compared to a natty, thats the tell tale signs

I don't think it's that easy to blow a carb up when natural. Besides, most of these guys have info at their fingertips and do something reasonable, if much manipulation at all. IMO alot of times in enhanced bodybuilding guys blame last minute prep mistakes when in reality they just weren't better than the other guy.

It’s very very easy to fuck up your water. Most look better 5-7 days prior.

Just because he is small does not mean he is natty.

A guy like this never "holds water" throughout his prep in the first place, unless he for example gets sick and is given cortisone, or does some idiotic 10K cheat day. It's not really a thing for healthy lean individuals. So if this guy eats the exact same diet up to the show, starvation level, does not increase or cut sodium and then eats say 200 grams extra carbs the day before, does not cut water throughout, nothing's going to be outright blown. If they have some coach with half a brain it's not going to be anything radical, he really has little to no water to lose and his small amount of muscle can hold just a few hundred grams more of carbs. I'd really like to see an example of a little natural like this who "blew it," like I want to see someone with a ripped ass with not a ripped ass because he "held water" or "went flat." This is just my humble opinion, not fighting you 8)
Again, just in my opinion, even in enhanced amateur bodybuilding, if a guy is 2 pounds too hydrated or 2 pounds too "flat," it's not going to affect placing most times. Now, if holding a few pounds too much fat, that's more of a factor. As many will agree, some guys just aren't in shape, it wasn't the carb load to blame, it was 3 more weeks of diet required or whatever 8)

I worked out at Lee Haney's World Class Fitness Center (Animal Kingdom) up until they closed in 2006. There was a black guy that trained in there name Terrance, he was 100% natural. And this dude was shredded beyond belief. And actually had muscle size too. I don't mean jacked up competition muscle size, but around 190lbs at 5'9" and single digit bodyfat. And this was year around. I was there for several years and he always had the super lean and vascular condition. He carried a 20 ounce water bottle and that was all the water he allowed himself for all day long. Carbs under 50 grams and over 200 grams protein daily. He died the year before they closed. His sister that worked out sometimes (but mainly at the Lee Haney in Stone Mountain) said that his heart just gave out and stopped and the doctors suspected it was from ongoing dehydration over a very long period of time. He was super nice.
Now that I am remembering this, there was 5 people - 3 members and 2 staff - who all died that year before they closed. Really weird because all seemed to be in good health and fairly young. I think the oldest was the gym manager who was in his early 40s.

closed due to staff shortages?

Did Haney sell it or did he take the financial loss?

The building was sold for condos/lofts. It was an old Sears building with multiple floors. City Hall was there and they gave him the key to the city for his Olympia victories and asked him to move there. To this day I have never seen a more well equipped gym. Not saying there isn't any, but I haven't seen one in person yet. Not just in size, which it was huge but I know there are other gyms that are bigger. But there were machines there that I have not seen anywhere else. Even ones made by Hammer Strength which is common, but you never see them in most gyms. There were some I haven't seen in other gyms at all. There were back machines - seated rows, lat pull down, pull overs, that when seated, there was a tv screen in front of the viewer and a camera installed behind them, so you could see the muscles working. Haney always said if you can't feel it, you can't build it. Mind muscle connection thing. Same thing with a squat rack that would project the image from the side so you can see if you actually made it to parallel or whatever squatting depth is necessary for PL meets. From my understanding most of these machines and equipment was donated by the manufacturers to Haney.
But he shut down when it was sold, his Stone Mountain one was still opened but I never went as it was too far. (no idea if it is still open - MCWAY would know) I had also been going to the original Main Event Fitness on Buford Highway that was sold to Ropeman and became Ropeman's Fitness. (Where I saw Ronnie in person for the first time), but it became too black so I would go to the other Main Event Fitness or Coffee's Gym in Marietta, or Power House in Alpharetta.
One thing I miss about Atlanta is the access to really good GYMS. Not the "fitness center" types that are common among S FL chains.

Just a fact. One thing I can say about Haney is that he did NOT welcome people with reputations for being troublemakers or riff raff into his gyms. You didn't see Curly Top there or his gang that hung out at Run and Shoot, or Niko (Troy Ashford) and his entourage of female strippers, or the dudes Harold or Stan that were known steroid dealers or even the white guy Bobby that sold shit and was murdered.
The only pros that were in Haney's gym regularly were Shabazz, Rowe, and Freeman. Who were cool. Though Shabazz was a little insecure prick mostly.

As a leftist you should know better than to say "black".
The politically correct term is "African-American".

I think you are thinking about things from a much higher level than novice types at local shows. I guess some rare ones might have “coaches” but most just read the garbage on the internet or in magazines/books that all encourage sodium water carb manipulation. Agree most would be better not to do that at all. I also think almost no one competing even at that level is natural since the 70s
Hell look at those two schlubs from the cup, they both told Hanky they weren’t.

Yeah I was more guessing. I was guessing the guy in the pics is "smart" since he has been able to get in this condition in the first place, which is not that common for clueless novices? Assuming...
If not a coach then read Layme Nortron :D

Thanks. I am/was only familiar with the Atlanta area scene and then moved to Ft Lauderdale and encountered different pros and experiences down here. I am surprised more people on here don't have things like this to share. You and Coach have some great stories. Beefy Heavyweight had some good ones too. I am kind of low key compared to you guys.

He took 3rd in his show I think. Condition days before is always better than stage condition.

Thanks brother.............Coac h is a great guy but I hate him for not sharing more of his stories.......YES JOE,I SAID HATE DAMMIT !! LOL ;D
j/k my brother.
I have some good stories about the 4 years I lived in Fla.,will share some sometime.
On a sidenote,I have met Ty Felder at the Masters Nats in Pittsburgh where he was a judge.........IFBB head judge Sandy Ranalli fucked me over because I had an 11 hour layover in the Atlanta Ga. airport, and I know she gave the judges the word to fuck up my placing............she just met me and swore at me using the F word constantly cuz the promoter allowed me to enter..........what a sweetheart! >:(
I never cry sour grapes and am always the first guy to shake anyones hand that beats me but out of the 8 guys in my class I deserved 2nd. place IMO as I was just shredded to pieces .....they took the first 4 guys and placed them side by side for the awards presentation......THEN,they had at least an 8 foot space on stage away from the "top" 4 guys with me and the other guys 8 feet away, almost as if we hadn`t even competed.
She swore at me and was pissed that because I was late the promoter weighed me in in the AM and let me compete.......I got a 5th. place trophy.
Outside after my class was over,Ty Felder (Haneys training partner....the Atlanta connection to my tirade), who I never met before, approached me and said I looked sharp and dry, and had a pleasing physique, then added that because of the long layover with my flight I was most likely holding water......YEAH RIGHT.....he just said I was dry !!
I was bone dry,and Ty Felder knew it and just felt guilty as he could not go up against Sandy Ranalli................. Sandy did the same exact thing to Paul Dillet once............disquali fied him because he was late.
The only reason I was late was because Dave Mastorakis` wife is a flight attendant and Dave and her arranged it so I could get a discounted ticket which was nice of them so I accepted......if I knew I would be there 11 hourks I would have just simply flown there.........I had the money.
Another thing that never happened before in my life, was the gym paid my entry fee and bought my NPC card as they kept saying I looked 20 pounds heavier than I actually was and was as hard as nails, and would win easily in their minds.
The first place guy was awesome, everyone else was nowhere as near as good as me.
There is only 2 times where I ever complained about a placing, and I did a literal ton of contests, and this was one of them, and that prick Jeremy Freeman gave some fat greasy fuck a place ahead of me as the kid trained at his gym in Syracuse N.Y.
A week later in Rochester N.Y., I won 3 trophies in BB, and won the bench press contest and the greasy fat kid from Freemans gym, failed to place in the 2 classes he entered.........FUCK YOU JEREMY! :D
Since then everytime Sandy has seem me its "Hi Tim,how are you,you look great.....nice to see you again" !
Fuck that noise!
-

Kid looks far better with color on.

I agree, you have to have color and he would have looked horrible under the lights without. But it also looks to me like he was holding that 3 pounds of water more than a few days before that blurred him just a bit from prior.

Ropeman is nice somewhat. I never had a problem with him but sometimes he could feel like he was just being "fake nice" if that makes sense. He certainly had his own favorites too. He's is sort of the East Coast version of Charles Glass, but doesn't look like a homeless man. But unlike others when he realized that being a top tier pro was out of the cards for him so he channeled his energy into a different direction in the field that worked for him. Plus he is Haney approved which means a lot.
But at least you were not trying to impress Doc Johnson (if the rumors of him that have gone around was actually true)

yeah he would blow up. His test levels are probably about zero at those BF levels

Doc is/was a big name in the NPC amateur ranks. He promoted a shit load of low to mid contests all over in various places years ago. And had a lot of promoters of other contests in his pocket as well. I am not sure if he is still in the biz now because the gyms I go to now don't put up or advertise BB contests anymore like the ones back in the day did. Some people going back in the scene on here may know more about him. But the rumor is that Doc would provide "hands on coaching and guidance" to select BBers he "saw potential in". Read what you may from that, but most people were convinced it $$$ and roids in schmoe deal. I had no dealings with him, never had a conversation with him or anything else so this is all what various people have told me. From other guys who competed, to people who also ran shows, to other gym owners. Is it true? No idea. But people say where there's smoke, there's fire.
In Atlanta, there was a new upcoming marvel named Bruce West that hit the scene like a wrecking ball, winning his weight class and overall in 2 out 3 shows (GA and Jr Nationals) and winning his weight class (beating Mike Francois - however you spell his name) at the Southern States, but losing the overall to Jorge Chic. People were talking about Bruce being the next Mendenhall. He was that good and had such unlimited potential. I do remember him having amazing legs. Easily in the Quadzilla category. I didn't really know him or talk to him. I was just entering university and he didn't train at Haney's. So I only saw him periodically around town at the grocery stores or such. But unfortunately for him, (the story goes two ways) he spurned Doc's advances in some way (first version) or his ultra strict parents he was living with found out about him and Doc and a bunch of drama happened (second version) and in either case, Doc was pissed and Doc made it known that he was now forever blackballed in any show that Doc promoted and other shows that Doc had pull in with those promoters. He would never place well again Doc promised. Realizing he was just going to be spinning his wheels for no reason, he just dropped out and became a trainer. And then died at age 40. Some say he basically killed himself. I don't know the details of it as I was not his friend or knew anyone that was close to him. What I heard was just what someone else that knew him told another person. But I - and others - always wondered what he would have turned out like had he really had a chance to put the pedal to the metal and see how far he could go.
The guy that sold shit around town named Bobby, that I mentioned before, who was murdered... he told me himself that he was instructed by people to never sell anything to him again or anyone associated with him. I don't know if he was being truthful, I mean a couple years later he got killed and his twin brother vanished months before so who knows if he was telling the truth.

Maybe other people from back then know him better and can chime in. While the "Mendenhall" claim went around every time his name was brought up, I tend to think he looked more like Porter Cotrell (spelled that name wrong, but the firefighter that hit the scene the same time as Levrone and tried to save Momo when he was dying.)
