Title: Changing Gears in Training
Post by: CalorieKing on July 21, 2025, 02:59:08 PM
As I get older my focus is on getting lighter and I love to walk.
Im looking to switch my training to supersets, tri sets and/or giant sets. Lots of gogogo
I really like a standard push/pull/legs type training

if anyone has some workout ideas based around this Im all ears

ive been training "light" for the last month.... everything once per week.. 15-25 reps... still do shrugs heavy and calves..no more than 3-4 days in the gym, split however i feel like it, little bit higher volume tho, 15 sets chest, bk, legs......recovery has been great vs heavy everything.

Chest/biceps, quads/hams/calves, back/shoulders/triceps <---Lee Haneys split

I just turned 45 and basically in the same boat as you. Instead of going lighter, what im doing is (or trying to do) 5 sets of 8-12 with a given weight per exercise. 1 minute rest between sets. Feels tough when in motion. The results have not been so stellar. Not sure why.

Good strategy Josh.....intensity with short rest are the way to go IMO.

Like you I've added much more walking to my routine. Whether taking our dog out or on a treadmill I try to get a hour a day for five days a week.
So with less time for the gym I take less breaks between sets. I might do 4-6 sets but I'm only resting maybe 10-20 secs between reps.
First exersize of my workout is usually my heaviest so I take longer between sets but thats it.
