Title: Gangs of London
Post by: LurkerNoMore on July 28, 2025, 05:23:56 AM
This Netflix series any good?  I watched two episodes of it and it is just "ok" so far.  Violent at times, but really you can't feel any connection with the characters or really even care why this shit is happening to them.

Does it get better?

It's worth a watch.

Enjoyed Mobland and The Gentleman more, but Gangs is good if you don't have a show.

Started Berlin Station - shows promise.

I binge watched the first season years ago in a moment of utter boredom.

The kid from Peaky Blinders is no leading man, I will say that. His face screams London rent boy.

There was one cool episode where Danish mercenaries attack a rural house full of teenagers, pikeys and a black gunsmith woman, that episode was fun.

First season has some great action and cool camera work such as the country house shootout, the raid guy was behind it.
Season 2 and 3 are a step down,  he left for whatever reason.

It was starting this or Peaky Blinders.   I have no idea which either is about other than a general overview.

I finished Untamed.  So need a new series to start.

What's your taste?
I could never get into peaky blinders, gangs of london was good for the action and gore in season 1 but didn't care for season 2 really and less so for season 3.
Recently finished ray donovon and going through snowfall now, both realistic violence and real feel to them.

Peaky is light years ahead of Gangs.

Rogue Heroes is phenomenal too, if you need a new show.

I like violence and gore.  Not really into long strung out stories with multiple subplots.

I guess I will watch the rest of season 1.   The fight scene in the second episode involving the half naked guy with the meat clever was good.

I will look that up.  Is it on Netflix?  or Prime?

Rogue Heroes is on MGM+, which you get through Amazon Prime.

It's based on the origin of the SAS, but kind of has that Guy Ritchie humor to it.

Really good.  3 seasons so far, with a fourth on the way.

MGM+ has a bunch of good stuff - Condor, Domina, etc - shit nobody's heard of, but is quality.

Mobland is better but NOT based on the Adams and Hunt gangs as some clueless twats will tell you.
Adams and Hunts are actually allies

I think you'll enjoy Mobland. It's wildly silly and poorly written at times, but it's fun if you're just looking to switch off and watching something violent and amusing.

Mobland was originally going to be called the donovons and would be a ray donovon spinoff. Something happened along the way and it got reworked into mobland, you can see how it's taken things from ray donovon but is nowhere near the same level.

if you haven't seen it and I have nfo where to stream iot or whatever but the australian series 'mr inbetween' is decent aussie crime with a bit of very dry humour mixed in there.

Mobland seems to be on Hulu which I have.  I will have to check that out.  I got bored with Gangs of London and started watching the first couple episodes of Preacher.   It has potential, but gets bogged down in parts.

Mobland really is just so so, it spends an entire season where you think something major is going to happen and doesnt really.
Preacher is a weird one, gave up on that.
Mr inbetween as mentioned is one of the best shows I've watched.
