The EU will be banning all internal combustion cars in 2035. Given the current technology with engines, transmissions, hybrids, and batteries, this seem like a bad decisions. This is a huge win for China and Tesla.
All major European auto companies will be penalize by this ruling. It does explain the huge dive into electric for Audi, Mercedes, BMW, and Volkswagen.
I look at the amazing hybrids coming out of Lexus and Toyota and think this is a bad decision. The current state of battery technology is not far enough along for this rule.

Where will all the extra electricity production come from to supply all these battery-powered vehicles?

It is clearly documented that they are projecting the average person will not be able to afford a car in the future, but will have to rely on public transport.

Or the price of electricity goes so high making it far more expensive than a petrol/diesel vehicle.

Yes, it's all pretty much the same outcome. Most people only care about scrolling their phone anyway.

I live near an Acura dealership and have watched the number of ZDX electric suv's they have dwindle from six to one. They don't want to hold them on the lot because nobody is buying them.
Also, GM suspended the production of the Silverado EV.
With Trump eliminating the 7K credit for buying an EV and the elimination of CAFE standards for car makers, the business case for selling EV's goes away.
Really, the only company that could make a profit on EV's was Tesla.
Meanwhile, Gas and hybrid crossovers are selling like crazy.

I'm going to be like one of those old boomers who drives and maintains a 40+ year old car.
I'm not joking or memeing. I have a Volvo with 260,000km, and I sincerely plan on driving it past the 1M km mark. I have spare parts stockpiled.
Fuck buying modern "cars" with annoying features and electronics, and fuck EVs.

How do you plan to pass emissions tests to get your plates?

Yep I intend to keep driving one or other of my Porsche until they or I drop 😊👊🏻

I already have plates, bro. The annual reinspections are no big deal.
There's an entire culture of vintage cars around here. If they try to ban them, the boomers will riot. As will I.

I think buying new cars every few years and eating out too frequently are the biggest contributors to keeping non Getbigger Americans in constant debt and unable to accumulate wealth.

EU = "Europe last!" policies 25 hours per day. They strangle the European car industry. The EU has done disastrous trade deals. First with China, then with turkey and recently a very bad deal with the USA.
A few months ago it came to light the EU has given 17 billion euros to over 30,000 "NGOs" and other extreme left wing lobbygroups. Media like to publish fear content about Putin, but in reality the EU and all corrupt perverts in Brussels are the biggest enemies of European people.

I drove my Honda for close to 20 years. Had about 310k miles before the transmission went. Purchased a new Honda in 2023 and hope to have it another 20 years!

The EU is taking its member countries down the toilet.
I'm surprised Germany didn't fight this. They have the most to lose.
I could even understand it if they limited engine displacements to 1.3 liter or similar and allowed for hybrids. It would have given auto manufactures more options.
The Chinese are winning huge here being at least five years ahead of all auto companies except Tesla. Tesla is still in the lead. That may have been part of The EU rationalization, but it's still very extreme.
Notice how all manufacturers are focused on America. It's becoming the only place in the world they can make money. Mainly because of our love for crossovers and because the Chinese are flooding Europe and China with cheap EV's. Look how many competitors are in this segment and they're all bringing their A game. America will literally fund the EU electrification transition with crossovers.

As I mentioned earlier, do these countries even have the amount of electricity production to supply all these vehicles?

This is all in the name of climate, so when is mandatory mass euthanasia coming to lighten the carbon footprint?
-
When did citizens of the EU member countries last vote to elect the EU leaders?
Answer is NEVER.

Europe is heading back to a totalitarian state. Seems they do that every 50 years or so. The car issue is just one more control mechanism
Meanwhile I bought a used Rav4 hybrid last year- $20K. 50K miles. My prior Rav4 I had for 17 years so it was time to upgrade, haha.
I drove 200 miles on mixed city highway and averaged 45 mg yesterday. Good enough for me.

A country plagued by power cuts has become the first to ban imports of petrol and diesel cars, as a new dam brings hopes of cheap green energy

Most people won't have a car - sharing and renting will be the new "in" thing.

The USSR was replaced with the EU.

Tell me all about "green energy", lol. Just another dumb ass leftist phrase that is meant to gaslight.

green is all a scam... where are all the batteries and material needed to produce them coming from... huge ass open pit mines,, big eyesore and not "green" at all... not to mention the tires, and, all the plastic and rubber used. Lastly is the electricity to charge them. We have a "data center" somewhat near... and it is an energy pig... (and water too bc of cooling needs),,, and now, not 10 kms away is another being proposed.... I'll keep my ICE Challengers till the gas runs dry... fuqqin A.

I agree with you about the questionable language use "green energy". A cursory internet search shows how frequently it is flaunted by both lefties, capitalists and everybody in-between.
Thank you for the link (earth.org etc) There have always been arguments about dam construction, costs/ benefits short / longterm.... Its not clear from your comment though if you read the entire article.
