I noticed that when you embed a YouTube video on Getbig, it doesn’t play any ads when you skip around or fast forward. That’s huge, because YouTube has gotten ridiculous with the amount of ads lately — some videos are basically unwatchable.

I just tried it with this video below. No ads. All you do is create a dummy post, post the YouTube link, hit preview, and you can watch the entire video without any ads - lmao! I might just setup a local SMF forum on one of my computers and then start watching Youtube videos like that. That way I don't have to load up VPN to log on to Getbig first ;D
I can then also post to my own forum via my phone when I am on the road and watch all the videos without ads.

I watch a ton of YT so I went Ad Free for $9.99 a month.
Got real fucking tired of the ads, and having to skip ads constantly.

Combine the firefox browser with the ublock origin plugin. No ads on youtube ever. I love it.

I've considered going with YT ad free...
But then they know whatever you're watching. I don't like to be logged into YouTube or Google, unless I want to make a comment to a video. I get my emails via Outlook and rarely log on to the web interface for that. Some people don't care I guess. Maybe it makes no difference. ;D

Combine the firefox browser with the ublock origin plugin. No ads on youtube ever. I love it.
Firefox cannot compare with Chrome, especially if you are working several accounts

I hate that spying bullshit, but these days I watch YouTube mostly on my Firestick......got nothing to hide but it is aggravating and annoying.

Most of YouTube is heavily moderated anyway, so it doesn’t really make much difference. The real issue is that once you log in, Google starts tracking your activity across its services. Like it or not, Google still gives me better search results than Bing or DuckDuckGo. I could log in only when I need to use YouTube features, but that would get annoying fast.

I use Google too.......after watching YouTube or purchasing an item on Amazon or Ebay when I check my email ads are there for the items I bought. :(

I've gone that route before. But then a lot of other sites start bitching about the ad blocker. So I just stopped using it.
I read up on why SMF breaks YT ads.
When YouTube videos are embedded on other sites (like in an SMF post), the embedded player runs in a different context than the main YouTube site. Most ads — especially personalized ones — rely on cookies, user tracking, and scripts that only load when you’re actually on youtube.com.
In embedded mode, a few things often break or get skipped:
- Ad scripts can’t run properly because the iframe sandbox blocks some of YouTube’s ad-serving code.
- Tracking cookies aren’t shared if you’re not logged in or if the embed is served from a different domain.
- Monetization filters sometimes exclude embedded plays unless the embed explicitly allows monetized playback (which most forums don’t).
So basically, the embedded player prioritizes video playback over ad delivery — and depending on how the embed is implemented (especially older ones, like SMF’s BBCodes), YouTube’s ad framework just doesn’t activate.

I have — the Brave browser is a total game changer. I’ve been using it on both my iPhone and PC, and I haven’t seen a single YouTube ad since. It’s fast too, which is a nice bonus. Hopefully, it stays that way. The only downside is that on the iPhone, if you minimize a YouTube video in Brave, playback stops. The official YouTube app lets you keep watching in a mini window while browsing or checking emails. Still, that’s a small price to pay for an ad-free experience.

I get a popup that says, “Support the free press. Allow ads or subscribe.” — and you can’t even close it. On Brave, though, the page just loads — no popups, ;D
I sometimes use a VPN, and when I do, Google Search often makes me complete a puzzle. Bing works, but I don’t like how its search results are laid out or organized. Brave Search, on the other hand, works flawlessly with a VPN, and I actually prefer its results — they’re closer to Google’s.

I can now minimize YouTube videos playing on my iPhone via the Brave browser. I think it works when you maximize the video and then minimize it. So I can use other apps on the phone while the video is playing. I have seen zero ads since using it.
