The sheet metal career most likely caused his poor posture. The retardation came at birth.

Louie worked with sheet metal? Is this a new revelation?
Marty probably had Lou thinking sheet metal was used for his bed covering just in case he wet the mattress, urine won’t stain the metal but it can ruin a mattress.
His dad treated him like an invalid because he was deaf, so Lou wasn’t potty trained until he was in his late teens. Poor Lou never knew any better.

Seriously though, Lou was a member of the sheet metal workers union. He and the union sometimes post pics, he was well liked.
Edit, this is a funny comment -
"Thomas Carmine
Yes my Father owned N.Y. Sheet Metal Works Inc.
He had trouble with lifting sheets and ducts a certain way as not to have his muscle definition impacted.
He was very nice to my younger brother who was quite the athlete.
His father a police captain I believe used to stop in on occasion.
Lou and crazy big high protein lunches."

I believe citrus appeared twice in this movie between Big Tony and then later on with Lou. Then bodybuilding fans and schmoes alike had to wait nearly 4 decades for citrus to reemerge in bodybuilding cinema. This time, it starred alongside Kai Greene in a short film titled Pulp Friction
