According to Billboard’s "Country Digital Song Sales" chart, the No. 1 song in the U.S. is "Walk My Walk" by Breaking Rust—an artist that was created by artificial intelligence (AI).
Newsweek has contacted Breaking Rust via social media message outside of regular working hours for comment.
Why It Matters
This is a new development in the music industry as it is the first time an AI-created song has reached the top of the charts.
There have long been concerns about the use of generative AI in creative sectors. Discourse about this came into the fold a few years ago following protests in Hollywood from the writer and actor guilds, which took place shortly after the public release of ChatGPT, and concerns that came in tandem with the new technology and its implications.
Any creative materials that have been made with the usage or assistance of AI are heavily scrutinized, be it the debut of the so-called AI actress Tilly Norwood or internet furor over Coca-Cola using AI in their Christmas adverts.
High-profile musicians, including Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa, are among those leading the charge for AI regulations as multiple petitions have been launched to ban the usage of AI in certain areas.

Slippery slope time. There's no going back.

Since it is likely only digitally released it is all the more easier for record companies to rig the charts.
Since there are people who buy music for the sole reason it being at the top of the charts.

What’s interesting is, biblically speaking (at least in some circles), mankind was gifted the ability to make music as an aspect of praise.
AI is the modern day golden calf.

This will always be the first #1 AI song in my heart -

I think it solves one of the biggest issues all artists and content creators face today which is they do the work and others rip them off. The number of reaction videos is mental. Those reactions do zero work, the clip they react to is where the effort was put in and those people get zero benefit from it.
Have seen musicians on YouTube have people take their riffs, create AI songs with them then make copyright claims to take all that creators revenue lol. It's quite a good scam actually.
Just means humans will stop creating content and it'll all be algos.

Going to have to pull the plug on this society soon.

I hope all famous people go by the wayside. And no one ever gets to be famous again. It will be wonderful.

LOL!
Fair take.
No matter what you believe it takes a lot faith. Science makes a lot of claims that take blind faith as well. the Big Bang theory, a gigantic explosion created everything. Between the atomic bomb and Timothy McVay history has shown explosions only destroy everything…..

I'm not taking the bait. LOL.

AI probably sounds better than 95% of human artists
Most artists and music suck anyway, and who cares about the music charts? Such rankings are for the 12 to 18 year old demographic

Nice AI cowboy tracks but I still prefer to listen to Anita Mandalay!

So this is an ai song, is that a real person's voice or created? Someone still had to input the words, style, tone etc right or did skynet just cook it up and release it one day!?

I love Sus Records! The songs are better than any "real" music being produced.
