Title: Which economic system do you prefer?
Post by: Wiggs on November 19, 2025, 06:49:36 PM
After 46 years, learning, traveling, experiencing, and now having wisdom,  I'd say the Founding Fathers grossly underestimated how corrupt and greedy people would be.

The intelligence and education of the populace would definitely have to be taken into account.  Less intelligent people do better with Socialism vs Capitalism for obvious reasons. The general intelligence of the average citizen in the U.S. is significantly lower over the last 25 years. This was purposely done as everyone is more easily managed.

Pre year 2000 I'd say if all things being equal for everyone capitalism with certain things ran by the state would be ideal, I no longer believe that. I believe in free enterprise, and a corporation is not a person and has no business being allowed to fund campaigns. That was the beginning of the end of America. Anyway,  now people are orders of magnitude less intelligent, more unhealthy and just generally more clueless than ever. There needs to be social safety nets more than ever.  The soulless would prefer a culling. The corruptive nature of man means there'll always be rich and poor under capitalism.  And even then, the greed of the oligarchs will always lead to battles vs the employees and left wingers. It's baked in. The laws look good on paper but in practice it's much different because of corruption and fear and greed. At the moment. I'm 55% capitalism 45% socialism.  The nature of man, especially in a country as diverse as the U.S will always exploit the poor with capitalism as the chosen system. A look at the last 50 years in this country proves im right.

38 trillion in debt in a fractional reserve fiat system. The only reason the dollar is a thing or has worth is our faith in it. And we dragged the whole world with us. What's next is worse.

I know it is in poor taste to quote oneself, but I I went on a MattC-esque rant about this a while ago.

If you are interested in reading this gigantic pile of crap, may God have mercy on your soul lol

Great post Wiggs.  Health care, education and security should not be for profit.  Capitalism for the rest seems to be the way to go.

MuscleBuff, I'm aware you may be sore with me because I was glorifying Tom Cruise when you were trying to get an important point across about his role in the Scientology Community. And he has not been held accountable for his actions over the last 20 years. I get it. It's a nutty cult. I apologize if I caused you any distress.

Socialism or communism have no place in a capitalist society no matter how you word it. Both are designed to take down capitalism. Saying there is a need for MORE social safety nets especially finding that it only causes more corruption by lining the pockets of certain politicians but also since fraud is unbelievably out of control in all of the current social programs (SNAP come to mind). There's too much to unwrap in OP's post. But a couple of things here.

You have to ask yourself where this began. You mentioned pre-2000 Capititalism would have been ideal. Not sure why you picked pre-2000 instead of pre-2008 but we'll go with it. IMO, it began with the social mindset that people were entitled, yes, it began with that mindset, psyop if you will, not a change in the economic system..yet. Social safety nets used to be just that, a safety net to help until that person got back on their economic feet, not to use as a permanent solution to depend on for the rest of ones life. As far as healthcare, the second you remove competition not just from healthcare but from any business big or small, you find the quality of everything goes down substantially. When the government takes over and becomes a one payer system (socialism) every other sector follows and soon the government can SIEZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION (Communism).

I asked if you were a current student for a reason. This is what being taught in today's education systems.

I asked if you were a current student for a reason. This is what being taught in today's education systems.

Coach Joe, please don't take this as insult. I would expect no different answer from you. You're conservative or least a modern Republican and a businessman.

Let me start by asking,  why is fraud so rampant within some of these social safety nets? It's because people are poor and broke!:,Why are they poor and broke? Some blame the people and say, lazy,  low intelligence etc...while that may be true in some cases, I'll go further and say it's this fucked up capitalist system we live in that claims to be fair for EVERYONE but it's not and there's many variables for people but ultimately, when people work full time, they should be paid a LIVABLE wage. There was a point in time this was the norm. This is not the norm anymore.  Many middle class citizens have multiple jobs just to get by. Why? The dollar isn't worth the paper it's printed on. INFLATION. And business owners raise prices to keep in line with inflation but they don't raise salaries to keep in line with inflation. We live in a Corporatocracy. Corporations and the Government are married. That started when Corporations became people (Thanks Mitt Romney). All this goes back to our Capitalism and all the corruption that it comes with. At least with more socialism, people are taken care of vs capitalism they're not. You're not eliminating corruption under any system as it's a characteristic of man, but you can take care of more people with different systems.

I chose pre 2000s because the budget was balanced under Bill Clinton and  it was prior to 9/11 when this country changed for the worse. I already see where you tried to go with 2008 = Obama, which we know you just oh so love.

Yes, around that time social engineering and programming did indeed create the victim hood movement.  That's not to say in addition to that and more importantly that people have been dumbed down. Look around. Look at our standing in the world on test scores. Look at what people watch and listen to. They barely read. That's not conducive to a high functioning capitalist society. Which is why we don't have one. We have a corporatocracy with oligarchs. Then there's the corrupt government. BOTH SIDES. And both are beholden Israel. And like I said before, the dumbing down is on purpose. With that, we can reverse it,  which is not happening, or we can adjust how we do business to care of people. Money in places money shouldn't be will result in corruption. This is us and has been us.

I understand where you're going with the slippery slope. Though I'll still say pure capitalism is bad  There's no denying this. It's not the answer and especially now. We've proven as the holder of the world's reserve currency we're not fiscally responsible. We can replay the last 100 years 100 times and most would happen the same way.

My opinions aren't something I was taught.  These are conclusions I came to after deep thought and reflection.
Until the dollar is worth something or we go to another system, it will continue getting worse. More capitalism  = more corruption and ultimately poverty which equals more crime.

Of course that's your contention; you're a first-year grad student. You just got finished reading some Marxian historian - Pete Garrison probably. You're gonna be convinced of that 'till next month when you get to James Lemon. Then you're going to be talking about how the economies of Virginia and Pennsylvania were entrepreneurial and capitalist way back in 1740. That's gonna last until next year; you're gonna be in here regurgitating Gordon Wood, talkin' about, you know, the pre-revolutionary utopia and the capital-forming effects of military mobilization.

Just joking. Damn, Wiggs, you're 46 and undertaking a PhD? Are you sure it's worth it now? That's a lot of time and money to invest. What's the plan for when you complete it?

Coach Joe, please don't take this as insult. I would expect no different answer from you. You're conservative or least a modern Republican and a businessman.

Seems we're having a civil conversation so I don't feel insulted whatsoever. Yes, I have businesses as with many on here which is why I can speak out against socialism, marxism, communism or whatever you call it because all three of those systems is a threat to capitalism. So yeah, I pay attention to what's going.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Of course we have poor people in this country as with any country, but the poor in this country would be considered damn near rich in other countries. There is no reason, with all of the social nets, food banks, churches, etc anyone should go hungry. But here's the thing, those people are usually the same ones that what to get off the system to not depend on it. Right now we have 12-15% of this country on SNAP benefits. That's insane. That's over 40 million people and it's not because most are poor. The fact is most are able bodied and it's not like there are no jobs out there. It's much easier to sit home on ones ass then to get up to be a productive part of society. If you remember when we had the lock downs, when it came down to getting back to work, a huge part didn't go back to work. Why? Because the benefits they were getting were more than what their wages were. They became dependent on the benefits and more businesses went under because they couldn't find help. It damn near caused an economic collapse. So back to why there is fraud? Lack of eligibility verification and oversize. Most of these programs rely on self-reported info about income, family, etc. Weak or nonexistent work requirements. Able-bodied adults can receive benefits indefinitely. it's supposed to be only 9 weeks. Inadequate anti-fraud enforcement and low penalties.

I chose pre 2000s because the budget was balanced under Bill Clinton and  it was prior to 9/11 when this country changed for the worse. I already see where you tried to go with 2008 = Obama, which we know you just oh so love.

The budget was balanced under Clinton because his administration benefited from the internet boom. Clinton was also smart enough to understand when he was going to far to the left, that wasn't resonating with the American people so he pulled back and took it more to center-left

Money in places money shouldn't be will result in corruption. This is us and has been us.

I'll address the low test scores and I'll make this short because I've spent too much time on this entire response. In 1979 Jimmy Carter started the Department of Education. I do believe it was well meaning but as time went on, you started seeing test scores drop all around the country because, IMO, the basics of education (reading, writing, arithmetic, etc) weren't being emphasized and definitely aren't now and in are in favor of more of the "woke" agendas which I call indoctrination. California for example ranks 37th in test scores K-12

A final thought. Once you start depending on the government for anything...they've got you and they've got you by the balls. Today's left is power hungry, they don't care about the poor. With socialism NOTHING is free to anyone, not even the poor. If you can't make on your own in this country you won't make any where else and you can't make it, it's because you don't want too. What's great about capitalism is that you can make as much or as little as you want. If you can't get a job, start a business. This is not a blast on you Wigg's, this is blast on those professors that preach about socialism but if you been paying attention, it's the rich billionaires that want to reign it on to you. They won't be affected, you will. They won't put a cap on their income, but they will on yours. Make no mistake, Gate's, Soros the billionaire from the WEF that say "You'll keep nothing and like it" are all capitalists. Instead of using their wealth for good, it's literally used for evil. Do as I say, not as I do.

It took me decades to have what I have, I'm not rich but I'm far from poor. Both of boys started a business 10years ago and within that short time, they've literally built generational wealth by working their asses off and building a global brand. God knows they didn't come from wealth or hardly any money. They wanted to start a business, I invested I their first year and it's the best investment I've ever made.

It's easy to teach something you've never done from a classroom, it's quite another to actually go out and do it. Most people don't...because it's hard.

I agree with Coach on this one, but I have great respect for the future Dr. Wiggs. True capitalism, not the crony version where the government picks winners and bails out failures, is still the best system we’ve got. Let’s get back to real free enterprise and stop propping up bad corporations with taxpayer money.

Also, Hanky could probably use a few tips from Wiggs on how to actually stay in school.
