Are there any?
-
here's a meathead for ya.
<----
-
I think it is like anything else...if a few of them are meatheads (haha) and act like it,then the public lumps them all together as "meatheads". I don't think anyone could honestly call Shawn Ray a meathead...prick,maybe...but meathead,no. I have never met him and he might be the nicest guy in the world...who knows..but it is obvious that he is no dummy.

What do you guys think of the validity of the sterotype that bodybuilders are meatheads?
In the 2002 Battle for the Olympia at the press conference, Wayne Demilia was totally pissed at Kevin for coming in late. Later he said the pros wouldn't be given the tickets to the after party for themselves and that they would get in on their own recognition. He followed this up with "normally you lose them anyway."
I thought Wayne was being very condescending at the time (to say the least), but looking back now, he was acting more like a firm parent to a bunch of bratty children. Other than Wayne being a prick, one theory a friend and I had was just that the majority of the 2002 Olympia lineup consisted of meatheads.
After being around the bodybuilding industry for a while, I've heard all the stereotypes and was defensive about them before citing that not all bodybuilders are the same. Now it seems that the more and more I look, the more and more I see insecure, unintelligent, arrogant people who use bodybuilding to make up for what they lack mentally or in some other area. Then there are those like Gunter, Richard Jones, Don Youngblood, Lee Haney, and plenty of others who do not resemble the stereotypes.
i agree, all you need to do is listen to Titus, Levrone, Dexter, Ronnie, Cormier, etc. and you'll see this, it's even worse when you go to some of the local NPC events and see the way some of these jackasses carry themselves like they're rock stars when nobody knows who they are.

im no bb historian, but the pros in the 70's seem to do it because they loved bb, and made a living in other areas ( chiro, business, ect ) now some pros (not all) seem to go after easy money (gay for pay,. web cams ect) nothing wrong with earning a living from bb, but we see more and more dirt on some pros year after year, shit that isnt bb related. how many more pros and wanntabe pros are going to put out a gay lifestyle video? some do it here on getbig ( reich)

Well homosexuality is obviously everywhere you turn nowadays. But also, in defense for many bodybuilders, they do have other ventures unrelated to bodybuilding. Cutler does real estate and buys cars and modifies them and sells them.

I
Then again, it is possible we only hear of those like Craig Titus and paint them all with the same brush.
That was my point exactly....there are always gona be a few bad apples.
-
Wait, they went to college before turning pro right? Oh yeah, like two did... It seems like using and associating with people that have illegal drugs may correspond to not going on to complete an education.

What does college have to do with whether or not you are a meathead? I agree that it is best to get a college education, but NOT going to college does not make a person stupid,or a meathead. And if you think nobody in college uses illegal drugs then YOU are high. :)

On Friday, a cook at my university cafeteria told me she used to be a stripper and was making upwards of $300 a day - about as much as the professors at the school.

Not necessarily, I have plenty of friends that are just astonished and motivated to see how great some of the pro's look. And I have no gay friends, so....

tell you what Earl, go to a mall, park, airport, baseball game, wherever there are a lot of people gathered and ask 200 people who Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler are and i gaurantee you that 200 people say, what??? and look at you like you just stepped off a spaceship but ask them if they know who Shaq, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Barry Bonds are and they all will know, bb'ers are nobodies in the general public.

not really, the guys i was referring to are the local level scrubs who walk around with sunglasses on indoors at night, headphones, gym bag, water bottle, etc. and act like everyone should clear a path for them, i wasn't talking about the IFBB pro guest posers.

Seems like in the old days most of the pros weren't afraid to actually work for a living. There is no way lifting weights and eating should be a fulltime job for a couple contests a year. Its not healthy.
