This video is a technical explanation of why Emirates is dissatisfied with the Rolls Royce engine on the A350-1000.
To put it simply, you can either make an engine bigger to produce more power, or run hotter. Rolls Royce chose hotter while GE chose bigger. The problem for Emirates is their airport is in the desert with sand. The Rolls Royce engine runs hotter than the melting point of glass meaning it liquefies the sand and damages the engine.
If Airbus was smart they would use the GE engine on the A350-1000, but they seem to be sticking with Rolls Royce.
This is only really a problem for airports in hot desert climates like the middle east, but those happen to be very important airlines like Emirates and Qatar Airlines.
Score one for Boeing when the 777X is certified. That explains why your next trip to Dubai will be on Boeing.

There's been a narrative for a while that Airbus has far surpassed Boeing. This thread is just pointing out one crack in that narrative. Another crack is deliveries last month - Boeing delivered 46 aircraft to Airbus's 19.
The only experience most people have with aircraft or jet engines is when they fly on a commercial airplane. Right now the two king aircraft of commercial flying are the A350-1000 and the 777X. Which are both amazing technological aircraft with truly amazing engines. I've seen a GE 9X engine in person at a GE testing facility. It is truly amazing the size of it and the power. I would say both engines are the pinnacle of jet engines.
Prior to the pandemic, commercial air travel was growing rapidly. We are seeing that growth continue again and Dubai is the second busiest airport in the world.
