I miss getting my monthly subscription to muscle and fitness watching shows on TV general nutrition centers, commercials 90s bodybuilders, like Porter cotrell, achim albrecht , sonney Schmidt, Al Hurley and obviously all the top pros of the 90s. I miss when they have pictures of the food groups that were essential that 90s really was the golden era.

lol I agree I remember they used to say when you stacked sell tech and nitro tech you were going to gain 400% lol to be quite honest that other creatine was way better you bought it at GNC. I know the name it’s at the tip of my tongue. Phosphegen hp
-
Wasn't Cell Tech like 5g of creatine in 70g of fucking dextrose?
I'm surprised that shit didn't give more people diabetes.

10 grams of creatine. I think the 70 grams of glucose was based on the oral insulin tolerance test as that's the dosage.
I never thought of trying higher doses but after seeing clips on IG of people using up to 30 grams per single morning dosing to boost mental performance I've been trying it. Been taking it with 20iu of Novorapid insulin and 200 grams of sugars/quick carbs to drive it in. Diabeetus! :D
25-30 grams fights sleep deprivation

Miss all the supplements and their designs like Twinlab muscle fuel, ripped fuel. Ultimate Orange. The gyms were bright colored or at least had color. Access to steroid information was a secret and once you came across it you read as much as you could get your hands on. The workout gear was corny as hell but do miss the baggy pants. ESPN workout shows in the morning. And every once in a while you’d see a bodybuilding show on ESPN as well.
90s bodybuilders were like a cast of characters when the magazines came out - they seemed to all have a personality that came out of the pages. Porter was the fireman, Matarazzo was the tough guy, Flex the diva, Nasser the thinker. Good times.

I miss Muscle Phone!

I miss :
Knowing all the top BBers name and contest history. Have no clue about the current guys. After Heath I only know Flexatron and Lumpsford as winners of the O. Curry won too I think.

I have a fond memory from when I was a kid and my father would bring me to our local gym for us to get drinks from their cooler. The gym was small and had neon bright lights all over the place. It was always loud in there and I remember hearing the members yelling and smashing weights. There were always these big guys sitting at the juice/shake bar who were dressed in crazzee pants and tank tops with Ultimate Warrior hair. Lots of women doing aerobics in the studios as well.

Nothing will surpass original Muscle Milk from like 2004. Chocolate was great, but IMO the "Orange Creme" and "Blueberry Creme" versions were the best shakes ever made.
MetRx always tasted like chemical chalk to me.

Russian Bear weight gainer was great as well.

I remember spending $180 bucks I didn't have on the 60 serving box, thinking that was going to "make a difference".

Yep, those are the ones. I definitely remember Chef Jay bars. They were so high in fat if I remember. I think Muscle Sandwiches are still surviving from that era and were similar.

Do you recall what it was like? What kind of effects did you feel? Did you have the original before Hi-Tech re-released it?

It was great stuff. It's the only supp I've mentioned that everyone usually remembers fondly, and never found a good replacement for. You'd get this heat and kinda dirty stim feeling that was awesome. Tremendous focus and drive, I crushed many personal bests on it. I wish I had it now that I actually know how to train. The only bad part was it was a little expensive for a young lifter.
Label claim -
Ultimate Orange -
Carbohydrates - 16g
Protein - 25g
MaHuang shooting for a standardization of 8% - 415mg (about 33mg of Ephedrine)
Caffeine was around 300mg in the form of Gurana.

You also got way more on the mix it yourself version, which makes sense. It looked like you just poured a bunch of Diet Fuel mix in a protein bottle when you opened a jug of it. I even found a tiny branch or two mixed in.

Yeah, 90's bodybuilding was pretty fucking awesome. Pretty much most things that define some of the best aspects of western society, peaked in the 70's, 80's or 90's. Bodybuilding definitely peaked in the 90's and its a joke now compared to what it was.
All these things cars, sports, music, movies, are all fucked now. But here's the thing, as fucked as bodybuilding is now, it's still less fucked than all those other things. Music? A disgusting parody of bloated whores screeching about how bad ass they are. Sports? A watered down pussified version of everything that was great about sports. Cars? They all look the same now. They all look like some sort of cross between a mini van and a station wagon, and draped in plastic. E vehicles? Hahahaha what a fucking joke. They're actually WORSE for the environment. Movies? Don't even get me started, cinema died sometime around 1999. It was already on its last legs for well over a decade. Now every film is a vehicle for perpetuating the destruction of western values with shitty, interchangeable talentless actors.
But bodybuilding and probably boxing, despite being shadows of their former selves are still relatively untouched compared to how everything else has been corrupted and perverted.

I used to buy ultimate orange when it has mah huang in it, then it was reformulated and wasnt as good. Switched to ripped fuel back when it also had the same ingredient, until eohedra products were all banned. Everything sucked since.
How did it feel? I think those were the years I made the majority of gains in strength. It was amazing, when it kicked in weights felt half as heavy. I was always able to lift more than the workout before. Like it made me superman and it lasted hours after the workout.

No one took as much ephedrine as me I thought. But then I saw a couple of powerlifters take 20 tabs with 20 Russian Dianabols at once before workouts LOL. I read in MMI that Dave Fisher took 8-10 with a pot of coffee before workouts while his training partner took 10-12. I was on ephedrine almost daily for maybe 15 years, never stopped working either. My friend had a supp company and I remember once buying 30 cheap tubs of ephedra/caffeine tabs but I mostly used Spanish and Turkish 50mg ephedrine. No one loved it as much as me and I've said a million times American lifters are idiots for not buying ephedrine instead of buying shitty PWOs. It really boosted motivation and aggression and lifting was way more fun on it. It used to be that absolutely no one dieted without ephedrine but now it's nowhere to be seen around here.
I remember the first Twinlab protein bars. They were hard as bricks, you could break your teeth on those. I bought many Twinlab gainers too. Twinlab had an great early RTD with 40 or 50 grams of whey protein and 100 grams of quick carbs. Crazy dose in a rather small bottle I thought.

Hahaha. Yeah, I remember the ECA stack. Ephedrine, Caffeine and Aspirin. I fucking loved that. Felt like superman.
Then a buddy of mine told me "if you can get a hold of some Vicodin, add it to the ECA stack. It's the E CAV stack. I happened to have an old supply of Vicodin from a work related injury.
I gave it a shot and HOLY FUCK BALLS BATMAN! Wooo!!! The only way I can describe it is I felt like I could walk through a brick wall. That shit was insane and I only used it for about a week as it was obvious I was working far beyond my physical capabilities. I really felt like it was only a matter of time before I tore a quad or broke my spine.
Damn good post beak !!!
Thanks Wes!

Sounds great but dangerous if you have a big supply of the V part LOL :D
Stims I find haven't been very addictive for me despite how much I love them. When the ephedrine disappeared I wasn't jonesing for it. I mean 15 years is a long time to be taking it regularly. Ephedra was such a big money maker for supp companies I believe Twinlab went under because of the ban. I remember Muscular Development and Twinlab was lobbying against the upcoming ban, lots of articles contesting the supposed danger of ephedrine.

I bet your access was better than around here. They were great but you couldn't pick and choose, you had to use whatever the gym dealer had available at the moment.

It was part of it. They had 4 big products that did great for them - the early andro products, the ephedra stuff, CoQ10, and shark cartilage. When those where booming, they had a stock offering that went from $12ish to $48 share fast. They borrowed a ton based on this new value.
From there, three big things happen - 1) Family infighting about the direction of the brand. One side wanted to stay sports and fitness, while the other wanted to generalize and go older. 2) Big drug companies started buying up supplement brands, and they had much better reach. 3) Andro and Ephedra started to really get looked at and cracked down on.
Twinlab wasn't able to stall anymore, and was bankrupt by 2003.
-
Miss those glass bottles. Think my last Twinlab purchase was ZMA fuel. Honestly think I have a zinc deficiency at the moment and my gut is having a hard time absorbing nutrients Hankins style. Going to try out zinc carnosine

I remember reading from either Flex on MMI that it is cheaper to buy protein in powder form than in real food.
Might have been in US but surely not in Scandinavia.
I saved money to buy my first can on Dan Duchaines… was it Next something protein?
It cost a effing fortune to a teenager and I only took one serving after squat session 😄
-
Hydroxycut lol had ephedrine in it lol
-
I bought all this shit of course, but getting my first Naposim Dbol and later Omnadren bottles are the most memorable moments of the late 90’s.
That stuff was like the magic these magazines talked about.
By the turn of the century the forums were just starting to gain steam, but the magazines were still great.
The place I worked sold the magazines so I read them all for free.
I remember there was a small feud between Kamali and Shawn Ray in one of them going back and forth I think at one point.
Was bummed when I got fired from that job, but that’s the last one that ever did.

LOL. I remember I used to call the Highland Park Powerhouse Sunday morning to get the results.

1.95 adjusted for inflation would be 4.34 dollars per minute today.

I remember when my buddy and I took test for the first time. We would bring our used needle and syringe and stick the needle into the ceiling tile and pull the plunger so that it hung low in the locker room of the Lincoln Park Powerhouse. ;D ;D ;D

Wasn’t the guy on the Russian Bear supposed to be some beloved Soviet strong man? I remember how much sugar was in it and I think the scoops were huge.

Mr America 1964. He also claimed a bunch of odd records, like best table top curl, and stuff like that. It's been said that he wasn't even Russian, and his real name was Val Valentino. He was great at small time promotion, constantly pitching his products.
Pretty sweet fake bench press in this little vid -

I think the ads ran in musclemag or ironman at the time. Could have been cybergenics or met-rx, but the owner's photo was prominent in the ad. He was in his mid 40s I guess.
But he didn't look muscular at all, does anyone know which brand or owner it was?

Must have been a very profitable business at the time:

"Does cybergenics work?" Of course, it was one of musclemags biggest advertisers

Huge money maker. At one time the owner had one of the biggest high end guitar collections in America. He later owned Cytodyne (Xenadrine, Taraxatone), another huge supplement success.

The only steroid I ever used. Good stuff.

I miss the training outfits and haircut's.
The 90’s was action packed, str8 iconic. People on the streets knew nothing about gear, just protein shakes. I'm 61 know I'm still a natural guy that been lifting since 1973. That's when mother first bought us the 100 lb workout gym. I still own all the magazines, from the era. Btw, is there a market for the golden era magazines? Hit me up @ mackbrown@duck.com. I'm looking for STRONG HGH. BTW IS STEROIDSHOP LEGIT?.?

All the stuff that I couldn’t afford and am now glad I didn’t waste my money on. Sure I bought lots of fart powder and something at GNC here and there but some guys wasted thousands of Daddy’s money (like Hankins) on worthless shit before realizing it was all a scam and only gear works.
Oh, and the purveyors of all these lies belong in jail or sent to Iran

Hankins has repeatedly said testosterone is not a steroid! Get it straight.

These guys today are super boring. Bring back personalities.

beautiful werent they?
-
Seeing guys looking small in their tracksuits, drawn faces and then they walk out on stage and their physiques just explode. I just miss the conditioning of the 90s guys. This new modern fat face full full look just doesn't compare. To easy to hide weaknesses with the lack of conditioning of the modern guys.

I should have had him as a coach back in the 90's.

In the late 90's, Durateston was going around these parts. Brazilian sustanon basically. Best testosterone I've ever used.

IFBB pro,Dave Marinelli told me the pain was from the Propionate......I used to get it also.

I don’t remember them being painful.
I remember paid slightly less to get the polish version and I did not regret it.
Because it was my first ever test injection it was magical like when I tried my first Naposim.
