91 years old!
32 when he won the Mr. America in 1967.
RIP to one of the old time greats.
He had a very unique and distinctive physique.
That pic of him and Larry Scott made me look up his height. He was supposedly 5'8.5"
I always thought he was taller because of his bodily proportions.
He was famously quoted as jokingly saying not to do anything Vince Gironda advised. ;D

althou probably tiny dosages compared to current pros.

Howorth didn't play the size game after he retired. He dropped a ton of weight, and kept getting smaller by the decade. He also stayed into things, so that helped too.
He's 78 or 79 here -

Dianabol kills.
Back in early 2000s I counted how many Dianabols I had taken: 10K. I was like holy shit, I gotta slow down, my liver must be toast, I could die any moment. Later liver enzyme tests at least were normal, even when "on." Other damage was probably incurred though, no illusions about that. At Larry scott's claimed dosage that 10K was 13.6 years worth of constant use in a couple of years. I was mostly on it for another 10 years.
ESFitness' dosages were even more extreme though. I remember he said he took 200mg before each workout. Scott claimed he took 5mg a day at first and then a group of them had a meeting at the gym debating if they would dare to go to 10mg. I noticed effects seemed to peak at 60mg. I spoke to a guy who said he tried 500mg a few times and 1500mg one day :D

Early Summer of 1970 he was arrested for possession, transport, and intent to sell an unspecified quantity of cocaine and heroin while going Sonny Barger's house, and held in jail in lieu of not having $10,000 bail. He was listed as working as a prop master in the film and television trade.
A book on Motorcycle gangs called "The New Barbarians" describes the arrest -

Wild. He was back by the late 70's, so I guess it worked out halfway ok. Dates are off in the Barbarian book, it wasn't reported till 6/12/70, but the bottom is from the SF Examiner, so that might be sorted and fact checked better.
