David New offered this info on my site:

The programmes for the NABBA Mr. Universe contests in the 1960s and 1970s contained the ages and stats for all the competitors. Al Beckles age was given as;

1965- 27
1966- 28
1967- 29
1968- not listed
1969- 31
1970- 32
1971- 33

Yes, and how the early (pre 1984) refs indicate a younger age.

Wow, so then in 1985 he came in second at the Olympia at 47 years old: I doubt that will ever happen again.

why is there an age discrepency with this guy? it's not like he's a chick trying to look younger. AL this is gay.
